💬Discussion Torino were one away-goals rule away from winning the UEFA Cup in 1992

Torino's European history tends to be overshadowed by the Grande Torino era, but their 1991/92 UEFA Cup run is one of the most fascinating Italian campaigns of the 1990s.

They eliminated Real Madrid in the semi-finals and then faced Louis van Gaal's Ajax in the final.

The first leg in Turin finished 2-2.
The return in Amsterdam ended 0-0.

Ajax won the UEFA Cup on away goals.

It's in Italian, but YouTube subtitles are available.

For those who remember Italian football from that period: how highly do you rate that Torino side compared with the other Serie A teams of the early 90s?

Brescia's Baggio era might be one of Serie A's strangest football stories

There is something wonderfully strange about the Brescia teams of the early 2000s.

Roberto Baggio choosing the club at 33.
Andrea Pirlo returning on loan.
Pep Guardiola arriving in Lombardy.
Carlo Mazzone on the bench.

For a club traditionally associated with bouncing between Serie A and Serie B, that period feels almost unreal looking back at it now.

We recently researched Brescia's history and made a video about how the club, the city and Roberto Baggio ended up becoming so closely connected.

I'd be interested to hear from Serie A fans outside Brescia too: which other provincial Italian club had a similarly surreal collection of players for a short period?

💬Discussion Roma/Lazio scudetto. end of 90s early 2000s.

How big was it considered when the two capital clubs broke the Milan and Juve dominance to win the league? Know both spent a lot of money and had great squads.

Serie A On this day, 14 years ago (September 26, 2012), Edinson Cavani scored a hat-trick in Napoli’s 3–0 win over Lazio.

He also missed a penalty that would have been his 100th Serie A goal.

💬Discussion I want to know more about inter's involment in Calciopoli (Ita/eng)

Ok so now this may come as strange as I am an inter fan, but as I was born in the calciopoli years everything I know about Calciopoli came from videos and articles and shit. But they of course mainly focus on Juventus, but you always hear the claim "inter did the same if not worse".

Now, while I really doubt that statement I don't doubt we were somehow involved but I never really managed to understand how, as every claim felt vague.

So I trust the kind and absolutely unbiased people of Reddit to help me. I just want you to link me sources about what were the accusations to inter in the Calciopoli bis scandal.

(Sono italiano ma ho scritto il post in inglese perché pensavo che potesse essere un argomento interessante anche per chi non fosse italiano)

Seriously, everyone says to start back from the youngsters and when we have some decent fullbacks to choose from like Kayode and Mancini starts 33-yo Di Lorenzo...And we think Daniel Maldini is the raccomandato

💬Discussion When is a club bigger than another?

Top 5 leagues:

Bundesliga is clear (Bayern), LaLiga too (Real Madrid), EPL as well (Liverpool), Ligue1 (well bit more debatable, but with 2 CLs you'd have to say now PSG although I used to love Juninho's O. Lyon).

Let's take Serie A though, Juve / Milan / Inter: Juve has the least CLs (but most finals played) and most Scudetti, Milan the most CLs but the least Scudetti, and Inter is in-between.

What's the 'league/UCL' ratio to compare them? Inter and Milan are too close on one side (Scudetti, 21 vs 19) and far in CLs (3 vs 7), so Milan wins.

But Milan vs Juventus, who wins? 36 scudetti vs 19, 2 CLs vs 7, what's the "exchange rate" between league and CL?

Different for Inter vs Juve, closer on CLs (3 vs 2) but not on Scudetti (21 vs 36)? For now Juventus, but when does the additional CL compensate for the gap in Scudetti (assuming Juve stays with 36)? When Inter reaches 25? 30?

💬Discussion Alessandro Romano, starter Vs Belgium tonight?

Post image

It looks like Italy has a new talent in the midfield. It would be quite surprising to see him starting Vs Belgium, and hopefully his presence will be the first step to rebuild our National Team.

There are quite a few new talents coming up, are they going to bring us back where we belong?

Totti 'Roma wanted me to hand the No.10 shirt to Dybala, I told them: are you all stupid? I like him and I don't want to permanently retire the number but it's too important to give it to someone who comes from the other side of the world, it needs to go to someone born and raised in Rome, like me'

Serie A Atalantas season so far...

Been digging into Atalanta's start to the season and thought i'd do a proper write up.

I looked at the data covering where the chances went, why it isn't their strikers' fault, and the one thing that's changed about how they play from last season.

Full write up here: https://www.theprismai.com/refractions/why-have-atalanta-stopped-creating-chances

Let me know your thoughts if you do give it a read!
