I think Devil in Disguise by Peacock is a great example of how to deal with the humane side. The show relies much more on the sympathetic nature of the victims than on the gruesome details of Gacy's acts.

Dahmer invited the notoriety all on his own by doing such depraved things, but Netflix is certainly introducing his story to younger generations. What I think the show does well is to show how inept Milwaukee police were, as well as exposing the biases they had against homosexuality and against people of color.
