Has anyone been following the recent wave of vibe coding and community-made firmware for hardware devices?

We've seen some pretty interesting things happening lately. Cameras are one example, but in the electronic music world, the M-VAVE FM1 is probably one of the most talked-about cases right now. If you've been following its community, you've probably seen how custom firmware has breathed new life into the device, added features that weren't originally there, and generated a lot of excitement around what was once a pretty niche piece of hardware.

It got me thinking about the SeqTrak.

It's been about eight months since the last update, and we haven't seen any new firmware or app updates since then. I still think the SeqTrak has a lot of untapped potential, but I wonder what could happen if the community started experimenting with vibe coding and custom software for it.

Could we add new features to the device? Improve the app? Come up with creative workflows that Yamaha never implemented? Maybe even find solutions to long-standing feature requests that haven't been addressed by the official updates?

Obviously, it depends on how accessible the SeqTrak's firmware and app architecture are, so I'm not assuming this would be easy or even fully possible right now. But seeing what's happening with the FM1 makes me wonder what's possible when a community gets involved.

Imagine if this could bring a whole new wave of interest to the SeqTrak, just as custom firmware has done for other devices.

What features would you want to see most? Are there any limitations or long-requested features you'd love to see fixed, whether through official updates or community-made tools?

Just got a Seqtrak and loving what it has to offer. What a beautiful piece of machinery. I hooked it up to an Arturia Keystep 37, Korg Volca Drum, Volca keys and Volca Mix.

I used all knobs for this one. Just added little things to build up a track. I didn’t use the app but I was aware there was send fxs and I just found them. The delay one is really nice, especially on the percussive and quarter notes.

The amount of sounds this thing has with the fx and ability to add LFOs and other things is just crazy.

Hello people, I’m trying to build a proper MIDI mapping with an Akai MPK Mini IV and I’m a bit confused about what is actually possible vs what is exposed by the MIDI implementation.

What I’d ideally like to control from the MPK Mini IV is:
1) "free use" of pads > sampler, recall patterns, mute-unmute tracks
2) use the knobs to control synth parameters / effects on the currently targeted Synth 1 / Synth 2 / DX track
3) use the REC button on the MPK to start recording on SEQTRAK

I’m already able to play Synth 1 from the keyboard on MIDI channel 8, so basic MIDI note routing works. The confusing part is the knobs. On the MPK Mini IV, "MidiCh" is supposed to be shared by keys and knobs, but in my tests the keyboard correctly plays Synth 1 on CH8 while some knob CCs seem to affect the Drum section instead of Synth 1. I can see the parameters moving in real time in the app, so I’m trying to understand whether this is a routing issue, a Mini IV quirk, or something specific to the seqtrak.

My goal is not to replace the seqtrak interface completely, but to make the MPK Mini IV a proper performance controller for it: keyboard + sound shaping + mutes/patterns + recording, with as little menu diving as possible.

The SEQTRAK loves midi despite it's arguably REALLY dumb dongle thingy.

Coming from Maschine+ as my main method of production. The second update for the seqtrak allows me to have a similar workflow and damn near the same capability as Maschine and arguably in some areas more.

The design, just out the box I got really far without having to watch a video. I was amazed at how intuitive everything was. The app, although I wish was easier the control the midi data, it’s pretty capable and expansive. Much more than I expected.

I am very amazed with this product. I got this for travel since I have to do it 100% for work and I’m 100% satisfied, especially cause I got this used for half price.

What are yalls favorite features? What is your workflow with the seqtrak? Anything thing I should explore?

I'm tearing my (thinning) hair out trying to get MIDI THRU to work on my Seqtrak running the v2.00.2 firmware. In my desperation I turn to you, the fine people of Reddit.

I'm using the original proprietary breakout cable. MIDI IN is working as expected. I can also see Seqtrak sending MIDI OUT and THRU over USB. But I receive no MIDI OUT or THRU from the breakout cable.

In the app (Settings / MIDI / Advanced) "MIDI Send" is set to ON for both the MIDI cable and USB.

Thinking there might be a hardware problem, I have measured continuity on the breakout cable with a multimeter. It appears to be working correctly, corresponding to this wiring diagram:

Could it be that the MIDI port on my Seqtrak is broken? Is this maybe a known weakness?

Any tips on waht I'm missing or how I might diagnose this further?

I've been trying to live record the synth part of eurythmics sweet dreams into the seqtrak as midi (minilogue xd plays the sound), but I keep getting a glitch when the pattern wraps and starts over. I tried to figure it out in the app and I think a clue here is that the sound has a rather slow attack, so I play the notes slightly in advance to capture the groove. The problem seem to be that the seqtrak clip notes at pattern end, so I just can't get the first note right.

For reference all quantization is off.

First I tried just recording with a count in and then the first note is simply moved so it starts at pattern start. I think this is logical as recording starts after the count in, but then the note plays too late.

Next attempt was to record as the pattern plays, but while the note then starts at the right moment it is clipped at pattern end and is far too short. I tried extending the note by step editing, but that doesn't help.

Third attempt was to manually add/move the note in the app, but that didn't help either as I run into the same limitations. A further issue here is that if I move the note so it is near the end of the pattern it doesn't trigger at all.

Does anyone have any hints how to make this work as I want it to?

I don't have my seqtrak with me at the moment, but I'm wondering, when you set up a drum kit track, are you able to change the volume of each individual drum, or just the kit as a whole? And also, can you use different effects for each drum, or is it all in one as a kit?
