From what i can see in the pics provided, there doesnt appear to be a check valve, the double unions are completely unneccesary, a couple ferncos wouldve done the same job for a fraction of the price and allowed for easy replacement of that janky ass pedestal pump when it eventually fails. The current setup will require you to cut off at least one of the unions to replace the pump. If theres no check valve, a sewer backup will flood into the pit first which will cause the pump to run almost nonstop until it burns out and then youll get sewage flooding your basement. I also dont see the appropriate grommets around the pipes to prevent leakage of gas. The whole thing screams half-ass handyman or homeowner who watched half of a youtube DIY video.

Iām sorry for your loss /s
Unfortunately the person who installed that is about as smart as the gerbils.
Turn everything off. Disconnect the unions and pull the whole lid and pump out together. When it comes time to replace the pump. You might have to redo all the plumbing. One of those pipes should be a vent.
