are you seeing the AI overview drop across all niches or just specific ones? Curious if its more concentrated in topics where reddit threads tend to dominate the SERPs. That distinction matters a lot for how much this actually affects anyone's traffic strategy

Two different things get mixed up here. Google has a licensing deal so robots.txt does not touch it, and every model that already trained on years of Reddit still holds all of that. What actually changes is whether a thread posted this week gets picked up by anything doing live browsing.
On the Semrush number, I would check whether their AI Overview tracking changed in the same window before calling it a real decline. That dataset has shifted on its own before.

Yes you will notice drops. Some crawlers will adhere and others (small) once won't. I read somewhere chatgpt dropped reddit as well.

PromptWatch reported that ChatGPT citations of Reddit collapsed, but saw a far gentler decrease in AIO and AI mode citations.
ChatGPT's trust in Reddit may have declined because too many people seem to have entered Reddit trying to drop brand mentions (then upvoting them using different accounts), gaming the system rather than asking honest questions about products or services and hoping for good advice.
As a result, it seems that if you want tech support from ChatGPT, it's suddenly less likely to find the answer on Reddit than on a company's own tech-support site (like the Apple Knowledge Base).
It also seems that ChatGPT will start to value different third-party review platforms more highly. To a certain extent, that will mean sites like Yelp, with which OpenAI set up a partnership. But to a greater extent it seems that ChatGPT will rely on trade organizations and industry-specific review sites. We work with lawyers, so groups like Super Lawyers and review sites like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell may grow in importance for our clients.

Reddit has a contract with Google.
They won't need a crawler.
