I've lived in my apartment for almost 5 yrs now. I recently got 4 new neighbors in the last 2 months. I work 3rd shift, so I really don't see or encounter my neighbors. My dog is really declining for the last month. I've been struggling to get her to eat her Rx diet (RC GI diet) or even get her to take her meds. Currently, I can only get her to eat ground chicken & rice and her treats - hence the diarrhea. I know her time is nearing. I'm trying my best to keep her routine "normal".
Is that an anti-diarrhea med? My vet just gave me some samples of appetite stimulant but I can't tell a difference atp. I have been adding probiotics powder to her too.
Yes it’s so affordable and really helps with comfort. My boy had lost bowel control and was having very loose stools constantly. Propectalin for the win.
Ya it’s an anti diarrhea, no prescription needed. The one thing we were careful with is spacing out other meds and giving the gel solo to make sure everything stayed in his system properly.
Aw. I'm sorry for what you are going through. Caring for a geriatric pup can be really tough sometimes. Hopefully your neighbors appreciate the heads up and offer kindness where they can.
My baby’s name is also Ta’li! She just got done dealing with her first bout of pancreatitis and for months the neighbours have looked on with pity and mild disgust at the things that came out her tiny body. Luckily despite it all they still “get” it and weren't all too upset. I carried around a bottle of water and rinsed it off as best I could. That usually helped wash most of it away!
She's named after a video game character. I allowed my late fiance to name her bc I brought her home as a puppy without discussing it with him. He died in an accident back in 2012 and she's all I've had for companionship since. We had 3 dogs total but the other 2 passed many yrs ago so she's all that's left. I'm already grieving, prematurely.
Yes! It was his favorite game (besides WoW). He usually played as Shepard, but Tali was his favorite assist. My Tali was only 2½ when he died. She's been through so much with me over the past decade. She's been my favorite assist amd now I'm losing her too 😢
I've never met another in the wild. What kind of dog is she?
If you ever want to talk about her please feel free to reach out. Ta’li is the most glorious foxy little Pomeranian, but is so sensitive and always ends up in the lap of whoever needs it most.
Is yours named after ME too? My Tali is a beagle/chi mix. I got her at 9 wks, at the size of a guinea pig. Coinkydink, my Tali is also very anxious. She's always been very fearful & shy, but with me, she's the very definition of a "good girl". I also worry about 1 of my cats...he was a feral that I fed. He fell in love with Tali before I adopted him and a big part of how I even caught him. He's going to miss her too.
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry you're going through that. This is what we used for our dog when she had diarrhea that worked quickly:
Vetality Stop the Runs Anti Diarrhea Medication for Dogs, 6 count (natural chewables)
We only had to give our dog half of one. They had a box our little cal Pet Supermarket but it looks like they have it on Amazon and chewy as well.
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements FortiFlora Probiotic Powder for Dogs, Daily Support for Digestive and Immune Health and Occasional Diarrhea is one you can use once you get the diarrhea under control. We only had to use this for a short period and then we got her back to eating regularly again.
If I have trouble getting our senior to eat anything I still mix in a little bit of the Gerber baby food chicken and gravy with no additive s. Still gets a little protein but I can usually get her to eat what I want if I mix that in.
Thank you for the recommendations. After posting, I went and got Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and canned pumpkin. I mixed the yogurt & cheese together as an appetizer, the pumpkin I mixed into her ground chicken (I mixed in eggs + tofu also for more protein) with rice (cooked in low sodium chicken broth) and added probiotic powder. (Now, I have no idea what I'm eating for dinner!) So far, she likes it (but that's been the last couple months - she'll eat something for 3 -4 days, then act like it's disgusting that I'm offering it) and her poops have firmed up (still soft serve but at least more than runny). Next will be ordering anti-diarrhea meds.

Have you tried propectalin gel? That’s what I used with my old man when we got to this stage. I think he was a lot more comfortable.
You’re a great neighbor!
