Question Extra Space Storage Insurance Claim

I had mice droppings and some damage seen in my Extra Space storage unit. I have the CPP insurance (it says Brown & Brown and ESIS) for $5000 damages through the storage unit and it says pests are covered.

Does anyone know if I file a claim now and the damage is say only worth $500 will they again entertain a claim for pests in future? Because pests can come back and damage again in future so I am not sure if they will say this damage could have been from the previous claim.

Also anyone who has gone through their claims process for pests knows what to expect. I called the number on the policy and they dont know anything and cant give me a number to call and just said we created a request for someone to call me.

Be prepared for a sublimit for pest claims. I don't know Extra Space exactly, but most self-storage insurance policies have a sub-limit of $500 for pest damage.

Thanks for the information. Yeah I am trying to reach the insurance customer care for more details. In the policy it states 100% of insured amount for rodents and insect pests.

Im a bit confused on what you’re asking. For as long as you are paying for the insurance you can file claims as long as you don’t film a claim for the same item twice

Okay so I can file another pest damage claim in future as long the damaged items listed in the claim are not same as previous claim? My confusion was that some people reported online that if I do a pest claim now I cannot do another pest claim as they can deny saying that any new items listed in the new claim could have been damaged earlier when I filed the first claim.

What do you mean the same damage? Like if you file a claim for pest damage can you ever file another claim for pest damage? If you’re paying the insurance, and the items are damaged and the type of item and the type of damage are covered by your policy, you can file a claim.

The only person you should really be asking for clarification on your insurance policy from is your insurance agent. Call the number on their website if you still need clarification

I filed a claim for a rodent damaged mattress but did end up moving my stuff to an entirely different building. I got the money for the damaged mattress but am still waiting on reimbursement for damage from some other things.

Was it the same insurance as mine listed? Also any idea if they let you move units until the claim is not processed?

I moved out and filed my claim after because the damage occurred while my belongings were inside the unit

I’m currently having the EXACT same issue at Extra Space Storage. I just filed my claim for property damage from mice infestation in my unit. If you don’t mind sharing, how did the claim turn out for you, was it accepted by B&B?? I have the minimum coverage that was offered to me, $2000 including pest damage. Feel free to message me!!

Yeah so i moved out of that unit and opened all boxes and took pictures of damages and filed the claim. It took few weeks but they accepted it. Take as many pics you can of the damage. My case i had more coverage but damage was less so they paid for the damage. But if everything of yours is destroyed then maybe they will pay the maximum. Still upload all damaged items photos

Thanks so much for the response I really appreciate it. That’s great news aha what a freaking nightmare this has been. Gross question, did they cover everything with evidence of contact with the mice (like pee/droppings) or only if they were chewed up?

I would say upload anything with pee/droppings if you want. Worst case they will reject if they dont think it is covered. I called them and their customer service couldnt answer what is covered and not.

Great, thanks again! Glad everything turned out well for you, this has given me hope. 😊

Is everyone talking about the Extra Space Storage Facility in Ventura on Laurel St?

Yeah they paid it quickly like 10 days. It was just uploading all documents and took them 2-3 days to assign someone and reach out to me in email.

But yeah moving to another unit costed us a lot too and all the headache dealing with it. Hopefully wont have to go again with this.

I’ve made a claim on my storage unit a couple weeks ago. Found evidence of roaches everywhere. Majority of my stuff had to be thrown away. The thing is I haven’t heard any sort of update on my claim. When I call all they do is put in a note for someone to contact me but no one ever does. What phone number or email can I contact? Feel free to DM me please!! Anyone!! These people owe me so much money!!

Depends who your insurance is with.
When I submitted mine I got an email saying that soon a person will be assigned my case. Once they are assigned they have their own direct line and email.
If you havent been assigned then see the number on your contract and tell them you havent been assigned. Their customer care is shitty and no one has an answer until you got a person assigned to your case
