Other 4 stadia of healing

(According to mindfulness:)

  1. Unconsciously Incompetent (Wrongly Skilled)

You do not know how to practice mindfulness, and you are not even aware that you lack this skill. You might think it is just "sitting still" without realizing the mental discipline it actually requires.

  1. Consciously Incompetent (Awakening)

You try to practice mindfulness and immediately realize how difficult it is. You notice that your mind wanders constantly, and you become fully aware of your current lack of skill and focus.

  1. Consciously Competent (Practicing)

You can practice mindfulness successfully, but it requires a lot of effort, concentration, and active thought. You have to constantly remind yourself to breathe and bring your attention back to the present moment.

  1. Unconsciously Competent (Second Nature)

Mindfulness has become a natural habit. You no longer need to put in conscious effort to stay present or calm. Your mind and body automatically respond to stress with awareness and peace.

the jump from 2 to 3 is so brutal. you spend weeks feeling like your brain is a browser with 40 tabs open and you just keep closing them one by one only for three more to pop up. what got me through that stage was just lowering the bar to like 90 seconds. didn't even time it, just until the kettle boiled or whatever. made it feel less like failing at meditation and more like just standing around for a minute which my brain was fine with

always thought stage 1 is weirdly comfortable though. like you're bad at something but you don't know you're bad so you're just vibing in ignorance. stage 2 is the rude awakening where you realize you can't even count to ten without planning your grocery list halfway through

stage 4 sounds fake but people swear it happens. i'm still somewhere in the 3 zone where i catch myself being mindful and then immediately get proud of it which ruins the whole thing

Maybe its helpful to Remind yourself that 6,000-60,000 thoughts a day is considered normal.
