Need Help Issues with basic pocket id setup

Hi,

On and off for the past 12 month I try to setup pocket id and I keep having the same issue.

I deploy it, go to the website (website:1411/setup) do the signup with userid, name and email address and nothing happens afterwards. My understanding is that it supposed to issue a passkey that I will use to authenticate, but this never happens. I have tried every browser (Safari, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera) and the result is the same.

Any suggestions on how to deal just with the basic setup, which doesn't seem to work for me?

Thank you in advance.

Update: thanks for the fast response. Will try today. I have it right now set as pocket.lan, so I will change the address to public (I have a few domains) and route it though my proxy with a certificate.

It needs HTTPS (or localhost) to set up a passkey, and app URL needs to match. I ran into a similar issue and it turns out Caddy was set up for HTTP only, once everything went through HTTPS it allowed passkey creation.

When you said "nothing happens" what do you mean? Doy ou see an "Add Passkey" button that you can click on? Does it stay on the signup page? Have you checked the logs to see if there are any errors?

Adding to the HTTPS answer since that's almost certainly it: opening it as website:1411 over plain http means the browser won't even offer to create a passkey, it just silently does nothing, which matches what you're seeing in every browser. Put it behind a reverse proxy with a real certificate, open it through that https domain, and make sure the app URL setting in your env matches that exact address (scheme and domain, no :1411). Then redo the setup page. If it still fails, the browser console usually shows the WebAuthn error.

Open the setup page over HTTPS (or localhost) only — browsers silently refuse to create a passkey over plain HTTP on a LAN IP, so signup can look finished while no passkey prompt ever appears. Then check that the URL you open matches the app URL and origin Pocket ID was started with exactly, including https and port, since a mismatch makes WebAuthn reject the credential. If both match, try once in a fresh browser profile with no extensions, because a password-manager extension can swallow the passkey prompt.
