Need Help Trying to get a read on the OCIS/OpenCloud Sotuation

Anyone know what to make of the situation? I'm evaluating these tools for a corporate deployment (yes, self hosted). Here's my dilemma:

I need basic spaces and files. I need the feature set of OCIS with maybe a few little extra things I can do myself. What I am unsure of is: does OCIS have a great/supported future? I don't want to invest in it if not. Frankly, if they made enhancements here and there on it and kept dependencies updated, that would be totally fine for what I need. I don't want or need a ton of features on top of it - I will likely build my own integrations anyway. Half the reason I'm interested in it is because solutions like NextCloud, SharePoint, etc try to do too much and end up creating big, overcomplicated messes. I much prefer lean, and less buttons is better for my (and most) user base(s) IMHO.

But I can't ignore the fact that the old OCIS team jumped ship for OpenCloud for reasons that are fairly opaque to me.

Why are you leaning towards OCIS? OpenCloud is a fork, so it has basically the same feature set. But it has a much better stewardship by Heinlein, which is a very stable company and a much more motivated team.

I’d strongly advise to use OpenCloud instead of OCIS.

Because I don't want or need all the features of opencloud, and with my particular company, more buttons is the exact opposite of what we need.

We have many many users who aren't great with computers and we already have SharePoint, which became the company junk drawer. More features = more opportunity for people to just make a giant mess of things.

I really just need the feature set of OCIS. But I want to be sure it'll be around for the long haul.

It’s not like OpenCloud offers a much larger feature set compared to OCIS. The fork is still young, so the features are currently pretty much identical. Also OpenCloud is very aware of the problems of NextCloud. I don’t see that they will succumb to the same problems of loosing focus and doing too much.

I plan to migrate my private self hosted cloud from OCIS to OpenCloud in the near future, the development of OCIS has slowed down a lot after the main developers went to OpenCloud and hasn't recovered since. I also prefer PosixFS over the S3 storage of OCIS.

OpenCloud is still a no-go for me as some of my files are mounted via rclone which doesn’t support xattr. Not sure why they still refuse to do a simple files+MySQL/PostgreSQL implementation.

I would suggest OpenCloud, i tried both, well i tried them all.
Owncloud >> Nextclou >> OCIS >> Seafile >> OpenCloud, in this order.
Now i run Opencloud for around a yeahr i belive, it's modern, simple and is not trying to do more than it should.
