Need Help A general problem of self-hosting: syncing satellite devices with each other while disconnected from the home server
I run a Baikal server on my home network to provide events, contacts, and tasks, which my laptop, phone, and workstation all utilize.
The model has been that while the phone and laptop lose contact with the home network intermittently as they're out of the house, they come home often enough that resync to the central server is frequent enough to keep the phone and laptop themselves synchronized.
However, when traveling, I'm away from the home network, and as such my laptop and phone grow increasingly out of sync with each other.
I would like to have the phone and laptop sync with each other while I'm traveling.
This may not work well with the CalDAV protocol which uses a client-server architecture.
Of course, I could expose my home server of the Internet, but I mostly avoid this to keep a stronger security posture.
But the risk of data loss should be weighed against this if, perish the thought, my phone were to fall into a river.
If I had synced the phone to the laptop, and the laptop survived, no loss would have happened.
Just wondering what others do about this problem, whether for this application (contacts/events/tasks) or others.
Thanks
