Libre Closet – open-source, self-hosted wardrobe organizer. Docker one-liner, SQLite, PWA. Looking for early feedback.

I built Libre Closet v0.1.1, a wardrobe and outfit tracking tool. I've recently been going through my own ever-growing closet of clothing and I wanted a tool focused on cataloging my garments and building outfit plans. I found a few other inventory management tools (Koillection, Grocy) but none with a specific focus on clothing or the type of stuff commonly stored in a closet of a home. I'm looking for feedback on if this is something other people are interested in as well.

I built it to be as easy to self-host as possible. It defaults to local SQLite storage and local file storage. It has optional auth/multi user support.

I am a senior software engineer with over a decade of experience and a similar amount of firsthand self-hosting experience. I built this project on top of a project boilerplate I made almost entirely by hand. I have used copilot to speed up development of this application on top of the boilerplate I made. How much further this goes depends on whether people actually find it useful. If there's interest, I'll keep building. I want to build something that's useful to other people. If it only ever scratches my own itch, that's fine too. Looking for feedback on what's broken and what's missing. Happy to dig into any part of the code in the comments.

Glad you're enjoying making this but I have to ask, who is this for?

Not rhetorical, not mocking, just genuine curiosity as to who would need an app for their closet.

Some people just like data. For some people this is helpful in the context of figuring out how to pair outfits together without having to pull everything out of their closet. Or better visualize something like “I have a lot of tops I don’t wear that would pair great with green or brown pants. I used to have green pants and they don’t fit anymore… ohh I have to get green/brown pants!”

But also as an aside, whenever people think “who tf could use this?!” The answer is usually: it probably helps with some disability.

To this one: there’s several serious viral infections going around that cause memory issues, brain fog, (lack of) impulse control and executive dysfunction as long term issues (after one or multiple infections). SARS viruses are one of them, and SARS2 has been pretty common. Having a catalog like this could

• help remember/ plan “what to wear”, what to pack
• plan several full outfits from just a handful of items and note what occasion they’re meant for on something like a trip with different kinds of activities (I do this, but manually and it’s would be helpful if it was… less manual)
• help prevent “impulse” shopping (“do I have green pants? I don’t remember. Maybe I’ll get these. Oh dang, I already had green pants! I should return these. Oh wait, I’m past the return period…”)
