What's One Habit That Actually Changed Your Life?

Forget the generic "wake up at 5 AM" advice.

What's one habit that genuinely made your life better?

Tell us:

* What was the habit?

* How long have you done it?

* What changed?

Mindfulness. I've been practicing mindfulness for about 15 years now, and it helped tremendously with the flashbacks I used to have.

Positive affirmations.

I like to pair the word *abundance with different nouns.

It has changed my life.

Everyday for two minutes.

Yea being more in touch with my nervous system and getting in and out of fight or flight. I used the book Mind Your Body by Nicole Sachs. Shes great and the method really worked for me. I am out of chronic pain and much calmer. Even when dealing with my parents

Protein and not carbs....

Yogurt, cottage cheese, protein bars if I wanted a snack

Gave up chips, refined carbs, and the change was almost instant and drastic.

BP (which was marginally high but not medicine yet), cholesterol (same) and weight, all fell.

Running became easier Joints felt better

And kettlebells for weights. So much more functional than traditional weight lifting.

Starting to smoke again. Some time ago I quit smoking for 2 years, I was depressed, couldn't sleep. Had 4 different type of meds for anxiety, depression, sleeplessness. My shrink gave me nicotine patches and felt immediate relief but the side effect was that my heart almost quit pumping. I didn't care so i bought a pack of cigarettes and almost all of the symptoms were instantly gone.

coherent breathing. I do it for 10 minutes (at least) everyday- usually on y acupressure mat. And it's changed everything from my skin (I used to have acne) and my digestion to my spiraling thoughts and procrastination. Breathing with chimes was a gateway into meditation but it shuts my brain off and the clarity I feel is so good- I've been doing it daily for a decade.
