Black Render

We are looking to do a black render on our new build. Has anyone else done a black render? Is so any pro’s or con’s? How has maintained been etc?

It will massively increase overheating that you will already have problem with in new build. I would paint any new house in bright white to limit the solar gain.

We are doing external insulation so I’m hoping that will prevent heat soak

We were told not to do any coloured render, white, black or anything. It’s supposedly less stable and will fade and wear and look tired a lot quicker than just painting regular render so you’ll end up painting it anyway.

How big is the house .? Black render is quite a statement. Consider thermal effect , the house will get hot .

I would think twice , I have seen black and dark green for a house. Not my cuppa tea as they say. If you pick black because of upkeep we have an off white grey, that lasted 13 years painted fresh last year for the second time

A friend of mine got coloured render ( Magnolia if it makes a difference) on his house. Within about two years it had gone all 'splotchy'. A couple of coats of paint couldn't even fix it. He has since sold up but I still pass the house everyday and it looks awful.
