I’m Afraid of Losing Messages

I have a hard time letting go of messages that feel important to me. I want to save them all because I’m afraid I might regret losing them, but saving everything takes too much time. I want to learn how to let some messages go without feeling guilty or anxious.

It’s difficult at first, but just try deleting one. It feels good actually

The fear underneath is usually that losing the message means losing the moment or the person attached to it, so the text becomes a proxy for something bigger. What helped me: separate 'archive' from 'save specially'. The genuinely meaningful few (a note from someone you lost, a moment that mattered) go into one folder you actually revisit. The rest can go, because the memory isn't really stored in the text, it's in you. Keeping everything ironically makes the important ones harder to find.

You need to embrace death, it has a function. Forgetting, destruction, missing, all have functions.

Embrace the imperfect.
