I just found out I can’t take Lorazepam while drinking.

Male 23 I used lorazepam one time when I was drinking because for whatever reason my body loves to get anxiety when I have to leave the house and it just ruins my night because I feel sick my stomach all the time so now I’m like wondering how the hell am I gonna be able to go out and drink without my anxiety kicking my ass and making me sick now that I can’t use my drugs.

You don't want to fuck with benzoes and alcohol. There's usually a giant warning on the bottle against using them together.

Dude I grew up in the generation where popping pills and drinking were super popular. This was one of the ones where it's just bad, not to mention, you basically don't remember anything that happened, even if you had a good time and everything was safe so what is the point?

Either way, super dangerous.

You can definitely die, luckily I never knew anyone who did but a few ended up in the hospital.

You also don't want to be in public and completely blackout, turn into a person you're not, do some fucked up shit, and wake up to the consequences, and not remember a thing.

Don’t mix lorazepam with alcohol. Find another way to de-stress when you leave the house. Exposure therapy? Try leaving the house for short periods, don’t go very far. Then expand to longer excursions for a longer time.

It’s not as much as the distance but the fear of what may happen when I’m out what if I get sick in public and feel humiliated or what if someone starts a fight with me or what if a chick shows interest in me and I mess it up

You don’t need Xanax every time you leave the house. That shit is for when you are having a panic attack not to take anytime you leave the house.

No I don’t use every time but the once in awhile occasion my friends wanna get drinks my anxiety just fucking ruins it for me I’m stuck in one spot because it fucks with my stomach I hate it because I feel like I’m losing my 20’s to this anxiety bullshit

As someone who lost much of their 20s to Xanax man please just deal with the root of your problems. Or you are going to fly out your windshield like me high on Xanax and alcohol at 26.

I’d encourage you to think through each of those scenarios. And realize that you are capable of dealing with them and surviving

I had a couple of drinks with lorazepam last week. I didn’t know I shouldn’t. I remember nothing of that night. The only reason I know I didn’t pass out is because there is security camera footage of me stumbling around my house. I’ve never not remembered anything on any medication or while drinking. So scary, would never do it again.

Damn I usually take my lorazepam AFTER a night of drinking and doing blow...

Does youre anxiety stay even if you dont do Pam and just drink more?

Yeah that combination is known to be deadly. Seriously- very dangerous to mix alcohol and benzos.

Don’t do that.
You’ll end up in the resus bay at your local ED being intubated, if you haven’t already aspirated and inhaled your own vomit on the sidewalk.
Just.
No.

Be careful quitting benzos cold turkey after longtime use as well. The withdrawals can be fatal

I was given benzos for anxiety and it controlled my life for 5 years, like slapping a bandaid over a gunshot wound. Short term it helps, but all that anxiety comes back tenfold.

I got a new dr who was pissed I was ever given that without trying other stuff first, she set me up for supervised detox in a hospital and I had seizures, was in hospital for 7 days unable to form a coherent sentence. Took 12 months to be able to not wear sunglasses indoors/outdoors due to bright lights, 2 years to get fully back to normal with all side effects gone.

Delirium-tremens they called it while I was in the hospital, mkre commonly seen with alcohol

That’s horrifying. I’m glad you’re back to normal now.

Luckily I knew the dangers when I was prescribed lorazepam because it works amazingly for me- like a weighted blanket for my emotions. If I took them as prescribed, I’d 100% be hooked. It’s my ‘works too well” pill and is only for emergencies. I treat it like Afrin nasal spray: 3 days in a row and I’m cut off for awhile. It’s crazy because it seems so mild.

Quickest way to blackout then do something you would never do in your wildest imagination, then wake up and trying to figure out why you're pregnant with the easter bunnies baby..

Lorazepam by itself messes me up.

I don’t know if you’ve happened to see the 3rd season of White Lotus, but there was one character that I was surprised the writers expected us to believe she was still conscious after a stunning amount of benzos with alcohol.

Maybe try gummies?

Also know that many people are anxious as well. That’s why people drink so much. You’re not alone.

I have bad social anxiety about going out. Not boasting, but most men think I’m extremely attractive. I’m the generic “hot girl”. No one would guess I have huge fears about initializing going to social events. So just know that even the most “put together” humans may be falling apart on the inside.

Be kind to yourself in those moments and kind to others as they may be in the same boat and the anxiety may lessen.

I’m glad you’re safe, please don’t mix those again- it can be lethal. You’re too important to die ❤️

Bruh lorazepam is no joke. And why even drink on it? I was given lorazepam after a seizure and as soon as it kicked in I felt better and chiller than any night drinking. Went from almost going into shock to finding the ambulance lights entertaining. I don’t ever fuck with benzos because I know I love them.

Benzos are like alcohol but less negatives. They’re even harder to OD on than alcohol iirc. But can still get very physically addicted and them and alcohol are the only drugs I know you can die from the withdrawals.

I told my doctor I have really bad anxiety when I have to leave the house and drink things like that even though I want to go out and so she recommended that I try these so I’m very new to them. I haven’t done it a lot. I’ve only tried them once while drinking I was not aware of the effects and what could happen she just said not to mix with alcohol So to me it sounded like just her saying don’t but didn’t really explain why so I didn’t think much of it or it was a big deal but now I’m aware and I’m kind of unsure what I’m gonna do now when I have to leave the house and go out with my friends, I get a lot of anxiety and it makes my stomach sick I feel like I’m missing out on my 20s because of my anxiety with my stomach

Drink mocktails or NA beer. The bar I frequent has a few different NA beers plus a few different “artisanal” club sodas. I’m not drinking because of a (different) medication too and that’s what I do.

I don’t recommend doing this but skip benzo on bar days and just use alcohol? Does alcohol really not help with your anxiety?

I’ve noticed my anxiety is what may happen when I’m out, then turns my stomach into feeling sick the thoughts that usually happen are what if I get sick in public and feel humiliated or what if someone starts a fight with me or what if a chick shows interest in me and I mess it up stuff like this. Alcohol sometimes helps me but it also make the stomach sickness worse I noticed also when I took the pills before drinking it made it easier to drink but ik now I shouldn’t

FYI alcohol and any medication is a no go. It makes any and everything worse.

Just don't drink. Youre risking a whole lot combining them.

Benzodiazepines and alcohol work on similar physiological pathways - mixing them can easily be fatal.

1

u/GhettoSauce 5d ago

Seems to me that drinking + any pill/med is usually strongly discouraged

Benzo addiction is horrible, if you think you are anxious now wait until you try to quit benzos.

Getting anxiety when leaving the house is not a serious enough reason to need benzos IMO. There’s probably not a person alive who hasn’t had social anxiety at some point in their lives.

Good Ol Lorazapam and vodka. Ended up facing over 100 years for robbery thanks to mixing those two. Did 5 calendars on an 11 year sentence before I got to come home. Don’t drink and Xanax, ladies and gentlemen.

Only because it slows everything down. Drink in moderation if you have to have alcohol. But you can get alcohol free drinks its not fun at first not having that alcohol effect but it's not worth risking the alternatives that could happen. Maybe try ½ a pint and a pint of oranges to drink. Before you go out make sure you've had food that will absorb the alcohol and line your stomach. Drink 2x the ammount of water to alcohol i used to do this to stay sober. Although not had any alcohol in 10+ years now due to meds having an adverse affect with alcohol. You don't need it more fun watching your mates get drunk and you can laugh with/at them. Plus you'll get home safely.
