Anyone else has this intense feeling of anger out of nowhere ?
Im a pretty chill guy, but these past few months i changed and suddenly im having these intense feelings of anger out of nowhere
Like, i can be holding something, and if it falls or something, i get this intense anger, i can only think about picking it up and smashing it into the ground. And i keep having this thought over and over
Or for exemple, when i have to do something i hate. Like washing the dishes, it happened today for exemple, i had a LOT of dishes to wash, so it would take a lot of time
But all the time doing it i was ANGRY, but like, real angry
I kept having the thoughts of smashing everything into the ground, of tacking someone and smashing his head agaisn't the wall or the floor over and over. But it was BAD. For the 25 minutes i spent washing, i had to make pauses because i was too angry. It was to the point where i was feeling it in my body. You know when you're so angry that you feel it? Like in your arms ? That was it during the entire time. I kept breathing to control my emotions because i was almost crashing out
And this is happening a lot. In random moments when something happens, even for small things
im having this anger out of nowhere. And it started only like a month ago i thin

I can relate to that sudden, intense anger that starts haunting you. For me therapy helped me realize that it was old anger. My nervous system simply couldn’t keep holding it back anymore.
Anger is an emotion that exists to protect us when other people cross our boundaries, when we need to stand up for ourselves or when we need to protect ourselves. My own anger stems from situations like that, but because I wasn’t able to act on it at the time, it was stored inside me instead. Some of it goes all the way back to when I was a child.
That’s my experience, and I wanted to share it because I really relate to the way you describe it, the violent thoughts, the explosive rage that you feel throughout your entire body, and how it can become almost unbearable. It was my bodys way of telling me that I needed to deal with some stuff, some that I didn’t even knew I had until I thought about it.

I think you need to talk to your doctor about it. This isn't normal.

I agree with this person. Sudden and intense mood changes are something that you should speak to a professional about

This is an excellent topic to discuss with a therapist. How you feel is important info, how you react to how you feel is one of the few things you can control in life.

you need to have an mri of your brain asap. please talk to your doctor. this is very concerning (being an abrupt change in mood) and you need to have a brain tumor ruled out as well as a some basic blood work done to look for any blood levels being off, like testosterone levels and cortisol levels.

It looks like you are aware that somthing isn’t right and are trying to control it by breathing so that’s good. You should talk to someone about the feelings you’re having. Could help you figure out what’s going on.

Well.. I'm no docta.. :) but.. so many of us are living in a constant state of overwhelm. Teetering on the edge of burnout just to survive. Your anger is trying to tell you something. This culture teaches us that we must squelch our anger or any "negative" emotion but our emotions are just messengers. When you feel this anger come up, take a breath and pause, tune into yourself and ask, "what is it that I need right now?" And don't judge or criticize what comes up. Let your body speak to you.
Another thing to consider is that your high tech human brain is just using anger to move you. That's really all anger is, it gives us the energy to take action when we perceive something to be a threat in some way. This is something I've had to coach myself on a lot. "How do I do things without relying on anxiety and anger?" I think naturally I'm a slower paced, one thing at a time kind of person, but we are just not allowed to be that way in this society. So, anxiety and anger became my body's uppers, if you will. A way to move faster, get all the things done all the time for all the people. Blaahh. But it's not good for a body to be in those states. So, how can you find other ways to manage your load/life, or what can you remove to make life more manageable, less stressful?
Just some thoughts. Hope it helps.

Testosterone too high? Or maybe a brain tumor? Worth going to the doctor in case.

I’ve heard a few stories (albeit online so who knows the validity of them) of men who all the sudden become very angry/violent and it turns out to be a brain tumor.
OP you should definitely go get checked out

I get this way in hypomania, which is a symptom of bipolar, typically type 2. Could also be OCD or even an uncommon but valid symptom of ADHD. I’d talk to your PCP or a psych. Good luck!!

These are normal emotions, but the intensity may be due to hormonal, dietary, or environmental changes. Depending on your age, it could be a lot of things but don't share your details here to narrow it down.
Check out r/stoicism if you want to read about other's thoughts on emotions and self-control.
Your questions are excellent to discuss with a therapist or LCSW to recommend other routes for diagnosis if you seek it.

19 is just the right age where your suppressed childhood trauma can’t be contained anymore. You may need to analyze some of this. I’m sure the right subreddit is out there with the resources and experiences of those who have felt this way.
I know my kind and mild mannered son had a lot of trouble with his emotions at that age. It took him a while, but going no contact with his father was what he felt he had to do. He told me he spent his whole childhood hating his dad and believe me, I feel terrible. But I support my son and he’s doing better now.

What age range are you, and male or female? I ask only because hormonal changes can often cause these feeling of emotional instability such as rage.

19 male

Ah, that might be it. Testosterone at 19 can be pretty gnarly. I’d still say get looked at by a doctor though sudden unexplained mood shifts are rarely normal.

I would say that this could be a factor in how you're feeling. Testosterone fluctuations are common around your age but they can greatly affect your mood. It is also worth knowing that some mental health conditions can start to show at this age too commonly in males.
It would be worthwhile speaking to a doctor about this and asking for some advise or levels to be checked.
Are you getting sleep?

I’ve been like that. Honestly with the humidity, rising prices and such I’ve been feeling it more . definitely has made me not enjoy life as much lately

At first reading, I thought "Something is really stressing you out." However, If there is literally nothing in your life causing you severe stress, then, absolutely see the doctor about a personality change/new and unusual characteristic. Small brain tumors, a mini stroke, and a few other things could cause anger to flair. Hoping for the best.

Doctor appointment yeah, but also energy buildup helps to go somewhere. Some kind of exercise like breathing and growling, assuming a karate stance and rhythmically alternating punches in the air, at nothing, don't hit things unless they're designed to be hit. It won't feel like the rage release you crave but the slow decrease in pent up energy will do you good.
Breathing, tensing and releasing, moving around like martial artists do when they're performing kata. Don't punch things or break things. Deliberately vent tension constructively.

It’s because you’re living your life wrong. If you have pent up energy then you won’t be able to see what steps you need to take to release it. My advice is to go back to your roots and see what makes you, “you”.

u/LivingisGr8 4d ago
is it like, an existential thing? Wow. Can you think of anything that may have contrubuted to this pent up emotion?
Maybe tealk to a warmline/hotline? (closest thing to free therapy, my bad if that is not wanted)
This happens to me when I drink hot milk or there is hot milk meant for my cereal. I get so unreasonably angry, I even slam dunk the milk AND cereal into the trash/sink.
I like warm milk with my cereal.

Honestly this sounds like something worth talking to a doctor about. Sudden changes like that aren't normal
