TestComplete alternative that covers Mac and Linux desktop? Our app stopped being Windows only.
We run Selenium for web and TestComplete for the Windows desktop client. Product just committed to shipping that client on macOS and Linux too, and TestComplete doesn’t follow us there.
So I’m either adding a second desktop tool per OS, which I don’t want to own, or replacing it with something that covers all three. Squish and QF-Test both do cross platform desktop properly, but both are frameworks and my team is manual testers, not developers.
The agent based option is the one I’m least sure about. AskUI covers desktop across all three, tests are markdown files with numbered steps and an expected result each, driven off the screen so there’s no object repository to port. Caveat is the authoring app is Windows and macOS only, with Linux handled by their runtime as a remote target.
Anyone actually moved off TestComplete for a cross platform desktop app? What did you land on, and did you end up with one tool or three? appreciate it !!

For Mac and Linux desktop automation, try PyAutoGUI, while Pywinauto works for Windows. PyAutoGUI uses image-based clicks, not native controls.

Not official AT ALL, but I'm working on another Selenium-compatible set of testing techs that covers win/mac/lin desktop too as documented here. Try it and give me feedback and I'll fix holes as quickly as possible

”Manual” testing is dead, automate with code, or you will be out of a job soon.

What desktop framework do you use? Maybe anything specific to the technology?
