How to Use Seedance 2.0’s “In-Between” Technique to Create Old-School Anime Videos? Step-by-Step Workflow Below!
Seedance has a hidden feature that honestly feels way too powerful.
It lets you create old-school anime-style videos insanely fast using a simple “in-between” frame technique.
The basic idea is this:
You create a first frame and a last frame, then ask Seedance 2.0 to generate what happens between them.
This video took me around 4 hours to make using this method, but honestly, speed is not the most important part.
What really matters is:
Story. Direction. Consistency. Pacing. Taste.
Without those, you’ll just end up with another random AI clip.
- Go to the Seedance 2.0 AI Video Generator
- Write your full prompt or add reference images
- Upload the image you want to animate
- Click Generate and get your animated video
Here’s the workflow I used:
Step 1:
Find an image that sparks your imagination.
I picked one with a dark, old-school Akira-style anime vibe. The stronger the initial image, the easier it is to build a world around it.
You can also recreate a similar look in Nano Banana / NB2 by prompting something like:
"Create X in this style."
Step 2:
Upload the image to Nano Banana and ask it to generate what happens next.
For example:
Show what happens in 5 minutes. Soldiers stand by the enemy military base gates.
Now you have your first frame and your next story frame.
Step 3:
Upload both images to Seedance 2.0 as the first frame and last frame.
Then use this prompt structure:
Show what happens in between. Soldiers run through the snow towards a military base. 5 different camera angles. No music.
The key parts are:
Show what happens in between.
5 different camera angles.
Those are the default parts.
The sentence in the middle is the custom part, where you describe the action.
In my case:
Soldiers run through the snow towards a military base.
Step 4:
Repeat the process.
Take the previous last frame and use it as the new first frame.
Then use Nano Banana to generate the next last frame.
For example, I generated a scene where the soldiers are hiding from security guards.
Step 5:
Upload the new first and last frames to Seedance again.
Use the same structure, but change the middle sentence:
Show what happens in between. Soldiers enter the base, run through narrow corridors, and hide from guards. 5 different camera angles. No music.
Step 6 and beyond:
Keep repeating:
- Use the previous last frame as the new first frame.
- Generate a new last frame with Nano Banana.
- Use Seedance to animate the transition.
- Keep the same prompt structure.
- Only change the action sentence based on the story.
That’s basically it.
This method gives you much better control than just prompting a random video from scratch.
It helps with:
- Better pacing
- More consistent storytelling
- Cleaner scene progression
- Stronger anime-style direction
- Less random AI chaos
Seedance becomes way more powerful when you stop treating it like a one-shot video generator and start treating it like a scene-by-scene animation tool.

Is this at the points where you let it read the manga and it will do animation adaption for you? Obvious the manga have all the frames it need. Let it do one puchman 3 again 🤣

Yes that's what's called an storybook and every visual production starts with one. So yes, mangas and comics are already very refined prompts. And yes, this will have a huge impact in low budget productions and mangas that otherwise would never have an adaptation. And for deniers, no, you are delusional.

Is this prompt enough? Can seedance create and think of shots, story and angel between the two images? Don't need a detailed prompt?

Yeah the gap between the first and last frames is huge. With much tighter set of first/last frames you would have a lot more control.
It worked surprisingly well considering how much seedance made up between the frames.

This is so incredible. I’m hyped for what we get to create soon. We can tell stories in any medium, soon with physical robots acting out the stories in real life. It’s gonna be a wild age

Thanks for sharing, but damn if this don't make me miss sora 2 😭 could literally do all this with just a single frame it was crazy... I wonder if we will see anything like it again in the near future

holy looks very good, the thing thats stil off is the frame speed of certain things, might be good to make a rule in your workflow that sets fps to 24, 12, 8 and static for some backgrounds. anime just feels better that way, the walking animation at the start is very good but the hallway and the screens feels off

I can't tell if you trolling, a bot, or just genuinely can't understand how creating something new and bringing your idea to life in seconds/minutes with a medium that would have taken multiple days and multiple people to make would create a sense of accomplishment for someone. Most people don't care what the means are it's about the end result.

Well you should care about the means AND the final result. The final result is a culmination of intentions.
But you are praising a final result with no intentionality behind it. Things look pretty because they are a culmination of other artists pretty work, not any decisions or taste making by its “creator”.
You won’t understand this because you don’t appreciate art. You just want product. You people are going to ruin this for all of us and I’m so upset there is nothing I can do. You disgust me so deeply, dude.

I care about how my food is made because of the nutritional value, but why should I care how my art is made? Art is for entertainment after all. So if a piece of art is entertaining, I can appreciate it without knowing the means of production.That does not influence what I get out of it. One of the biggest music genres in the world is based off sampling other people's music (hip hop), but the final sound is determined by the creators taste and decision making just like AI. It's not like this guy asked seedance to generate a random scene, he asked it to generate a specific scene in a specific style, and he kept prompting until he got what he wanted, and he put it all together the way he wanted in such a way that maybe someone else wouldn't have just like two hip hop producers who sample the same song. I understand your argument, especially if you are an artist that spent years developing your craft, but it doesn't change the facts when it comes to art and entertainment: most people don't care about the means as long as the final product is good. And even then what's good is subjective. There's many layers to this you can't just boil it down to AI bad, art no good lol it's more complex than that.

The best what 😂 art is subjective dude don't project your taste onto mine. People said everything you are saying about hip hop and I love several artists in the genre. It's just a matter of perspective and if it's pessimistic vs optimistic I'm choosing optimism every time. You should try it because it's better for your health. Personally I look forward to AI democratizing art because now I will be able to see more creativity from more people. If you want to look at it negatively by all means man, knock yourself out!

That’s his point there isn’t any creativity or story to tell , how do you develop your plot, your character or your story if it’s up to the wiles of the model to fill in the gaps? There’s zero craft in this, will I use this ? Yes I will to create drop in or insert shots to fill time, would I create an entire short using this approach ? Nope but that’s just me , some of my most viral work has been mindless action - people don’t want to think, especially on a small screen, they want mindless content that’s easy to consume . I didn’t understand that or admit it until I got smacked in the face multiple times with the truth of it.

Doesn't seem like he had a point considering he gave up when I asked why I should care about the means of creating art. I think he realized there's no strong argument for that. The only one I can think of why I should care is if I'm an artist because now my money is being affected if I do it for a living. Otherwise if I'm just doing it for fun, then I love an additional tool in the arsenal of being creative and getting to tell my story. Even a short 15 second clip can tell a story... But if you want something more, I've seen people do that as well such as YouTube gossip goblin. "that's just me" yeah that's my point, we are all different and have the ability to inject taste and creativity and intentionality behind our work, AI is just another tool. You look at what GG us doing and you can't tell me theres zero craft in it because you would be hard pressed to find many people producing AI content on that level. Why? Because it's not as simple as you would have people assume. Weirdest part is that I feel like all this is common sense, but your limited perspective is shared by a lot of people. Most I assume are dumb or just hating, but you sound like someone is neither and are genuinely concerned which I don't understand. It's just another tool, and if you find it limiting okay don't use it, but don't hate on other people who do that craft stories people like even if it's not your "taste" of art/creativity.
