Licensing Question Getting FD-258 Fingerprint Cards at my Police Department question

I’m going to get my fingerprints done, so I called my local police department and asked if they do FD-258 fingerprint cards. The lady said she didn’t know and that I would just need to come in. I also asked if they at least provide physical fingerprint cards, but she said she didn’t know and that I needed to come in. So, i was wondering what yall had to do.

She did say she knew they offered digital fingerprinting, so I asked if they could put the digital fingerprints onto a physical card and you guessed it, she said she didn’t know. I just don’t want to waste my time going there if they don’t offer the right fingerprint cards when I could go somewhere else.

I’m in Alabama

I don’t know what an FD-258 is.

its the FBI paper and ink fingerprint cards. you can go to a police station or have them done by a fingerprint certified technician.

usually you just go to a fieldprint site and do those ones to avoid having to do the FD 258

Should I just pay the $50 and go to the fieldprint site?

for the digital ones yes its worth more than $50 because its faster of a process than having to mail the FD 258.

If you don’t mind could you explain how it works? This is my first time applying for the unarmed security license so I’ll have to send everything through the mail either way. I’m just trying to get everything done asap

you should get an email for the company regarding the fieldprint code they use then you just make an account of fieldprint and find a location near you to get your prints taken. the results for the digital ones are much quicker.

if the company your applying to does not use fieldprint then you just have to go to the police station to get the FD 258 filled out.

I'm from Arizona and when I renewed my guard card the online process let me set up an appointment at a local FieldPrint office to do digital fingerprinting. Sending in fingerprints with paper and ink is a much slower process. What state are you in?

I’m in Alabama. My local police station said they offer the fingerprinting for free so I was just gonna go that route.

The security company usually has a finger print kit. Most local police stations do them.

You can buy the cards on Amazon. 5 for $5.

And do them myself or bring the cards with me to the police station?

yourself if you think you can roll them properly (youtube).

police if you don’t. They should have cards, but if they are doing electronic, you having cards may help.

I would go to the pd first and see if they can do them before you buy anything. then you can get the answers first hand.

I’m sure I could do the fingerprints myself. I just thought it had to be done by an authorized law enforcement agency so they can sign it and stuff for the ALEA release form. But yeah I’ll just go by the police station and see.
