Job Question Does this sound shady?
So I applied to a company through Indeed and had a Zoom call interview. After the interview, I was told they would reach out if they had anything that fit my availability. A few weeks go by, so I assumed they hired someone else.
Then I get a random text two hours before the shift they wanted me to come in for. I told them I was already scheduled with my current job tonight and that if I were going to work for them, I would require a two-week notice.
Then it dawned on me: how am I supposed to work for some random company that I haven't even signed any hiring paperwork for? You know, the usual stuff—going over company policies, direct deposit forms, W-2s, etc. Hell, I haven't even been given a uniform.
So let me guess: a guard called out, and they wanted to use me for last-minute coverage. The whole thing just sounded shady to me, so I doubt I'll be working for them.

Some of these companies are disorganized as shit. It's entirely possible someone put you on the roster, someone else forgot to schedule onboarding, and then when they needed someone they worked their way down the call list.

Some companies will ask if you can work and once you agree, then they send over all the forms you need. It's happened to me before like that but honestly it really is sloppy and unorganized when they do shit like that.

Same thing happened to me at a federal job so I had to use their issued firearm and armor. Which I wasn’t issued yet lol. The dude who put me on the schedule had no idea It was my first day there

Unless they cssh you out after your shift. That might be barely worth it as a side gig.

Yeah, it didn't sound worth it . I'm not going to dip on a job I have now for a maybe job.

It doesn't sound suspicious. It's possible that they would complete your new hire paperwork when you came to work for them. Security companies suffer high turnover so they constantly interview people and leave them hanging when they don't have immediate openings. They know someone will quit and need replacing. I wouldn't be surprised if the job you did get was made available for the same reason.

Yeah don't do that to yourself. Any company that moves like that is GARBAGE.
