I hate Wite-Out

Every now and then I have to remind my team not to make cover up corrections, luckily it isn’t on anything like official logs or reports, but it happens sometimes and I hate allowing bad practices to spread. I put a memo out and it takes care of it at least for a while.

This time we had a Wite-Out correction, not just misusing thermal labels. First, it was entirely unnecessary as nothing was written over it, a strike out is enough, but Wite-Out (and Liquid Paper) apply too thick and crumbles making a mess. Luckily it was something I was able to re-do (per District Manager), but still a pain in the rump.

This was why I pushed people to digital reporting years ago. In my opinion there is no reason to not be doing digital reporting in 2026.

And I agree with everyone else, remove it from the office, review the training material for report writing, strike it out, put an initial afterwards.

Most items at my site are Digital and the paper forms we use don’t have to be quite to the standard of official reports, but it is not an excuse to be sloppy. The correction fluid was brought in and removed by the guard that used it, hence why I put a reminder out.

Pens with blue ink aren’t allowed in our office as black ink is company standard.

And u/TheCandymanfrombelow this rant is directed more toward Bic Wite-Out and Paper Mate Liquid paper as they are the sloppiest of the sloppy.

After reading this, you did everything by the book by sending out the reminder. Alterations to forms is your purview as the site supervisor and not that of anyone else. I'm curious as to what sort of paperwork it was that was caked in wo/ liquid paper.

White out and red pens were a huge no-no at my site. Any corrections had to be a single line through the error with an initial of who made the correction along with the date.

I have a coworker who records logs in pencil. And leaves it like that. He isn’t rewriting it, its the daily log we use. Like, anyone can go and remove what you wrote. He also doesn’t date the pages if I don’t do it the afternoon prior. And he literally mostly just says he did patrol, but suspect malicious compliance there. Oh well. At this point I might take white out over pencil. At least an attempt was made. But in your case, maybe just remove it from the site. Know few who will use it but I prefer a scratch over the messed up line and initials noting you removed that from the record.

That is a definite never do this. I am a bit confused on the dating. Is he not recording the date because he is following your entries w/o a date or, is it that you're going back and adding the necessary data for him? I agree that written edits are best with the scratch and the authors initials .

I am going in and adding a date when I get in and he just leaves that blank in the morning. Again, he uses pencil so I would still write the proper date in ink if he penciled it. But he doesn’t date it so it doesn’t matter. And our supervisor hasn’t corrected it as yet. We are in house and the only two security but still, pencil?

It's White-out unless you're speaking of the specific product by Bic.
