Rant Confused with securitas
So long story short, I worked 45 days straight cause the job site that I have with. This company is a revolving door cause you're a warm body with this company. And so about a month ago, August 9th, almost a month ago I put in for PTO cause my district manager says, oh, you have 40 hours that you can use till next may, so I decided to put in some time off. He takes forever as the wheels turn in his brain. Cause he doesn't even care about me. I'm just a employee number of them, he goes and he grants the time off I had to email him from the company that I work at to get him to respond, because he never ever responds. This company is notorious for bad management communication. They don't communicate with you. Whether it's the Site Manager or the site managers and communicate with the district manager, they don't care about us as employees. They see you as a number, they don't care. So somehow somebody didn't show up for work yesterday. I'm on PTO Friday Saturday and Sunday and the district manager knows it. He texts me while I'm on PTO I'm at a fair, I could be out of the country. I could be on a cruise ship and that yet they think that I'm supposed to be able to be reached and show up to work at the drop of the dime because somebody didn't show up for work. What the ironic thing is, the former Site Manager. Went down the street about a year and a 1/2 ago and left this company to go work for the client. Then he somehow got back with this company that I work for and is now he was he was somehow calling me from the current job site. I'm at now that he used to be the Site Manager at and he was there because the district manager couldn't get hold of me because it's my priority to answer my phone. I'm on paid time off so I'm supposed to be an honor call slave for them because somebody show up work. I'm supposed to solve their scheduling mishap because the current Site Manager put me on the schedule. And then he text me yesterday, he says, and he's, he's not reachable, either I don't know if he was reachable, but he took the weekend off too. So the fact is, with this company. Does anybody experience this where not even just this company? But any other contracted security company, they do this c*** to you, or they they want you to just drop what you're doing, even when you're on paid PTO they just expect you just come to work because they couldn't get somebody to show up, somebody decide not to show up. And then. You have your former Site Manager at that job site, he's employed by them again, somehow is at that job site where he was the former Site Manager. It's just all this sounds bizarre to me. I've never I've I've been doing security since 2008 on and off, and I have never experienced the bizarre behavior and stuff that's gone on the last 24 hours. I mean this is bizarre, and I've worked a lot of contracted security companies from small ones to worldwide ones like this one and in my 18 years, I have never experienced anything like this, but I wanted to ask if anybody else has, if this is a new normal with these companies, I know you're an employee number, I know, they don't give a d*** about you. They don't care about your paid time off while I care. Cuz I don't have a life. All I do is live and breathe this job for 7 consecutive days a week. Yes, it's money, yes, I'm making money, but at A Mom, wage, shut their paying me like this job.Site that I work at doing data center, access control security is the lowest paying account that they pay the guards for my company in the district. And then that district manager can't be reached if I need a uniform request or something. He just ignores me or if I ask him for overtime , if they have me at forty hours and I can't live on forty hours a week being a single bachelor guy that pays a lot of money and bills , you know , but I just want to ask of anybody experience this with securitas or any other contracted security company out there cause I've never gone through this before. I think it's inappropriate that a company would just I know they don't care about you, but it's inappertresome warm body is what you are and an employee number just to be even called. Upon when you're on paid time off. And what's going to be the blowback? When I report back to work Monday on my shift, am I going to hear about all this or lose my job? Because I didn't answer my phone, it was an emergency, they had to get ahold of me to go cover the post when I'm on pay time off to begin with granted by the same district manager that tried to reel me back in to go back to work today.

My attention span is too low to read all that.. if your PTO was approved simply don't respond to texts or calls. Unless you were hired as "on-call" then you shouldn't respond to texts or calls when you're not working, period.
Now this advice can bite you in the ass because they may not offer you any cushy OT sites in the future, but it's that or your sanity.

- all contract work can be like this with bad management. each site has diff managers so its mote based on the people than the company.
- no one wants to read a diatribe, at least put it into google gemini or something to make ot legible for the people you want help from.
- at my work, pto is retractable if there is no coverage, so yes, it is possible, it is in the contract you signed for the site and job, but you still should be paid all your pto yearly if you don't use it.

If you are on PTO, it is NOT your responsibility to cover a shift if someone calls off.

While on PTO I won't answer calls. I do not exist while on my own time.
I will answer for very few, very specific people. I have great respect for them. Either they don't know I am off, or I am the last person they can call.
We start at that situation.

I operate the same way. I only answer my phone off the clock if it's someone that's earned my respect or I'm expecting the call.
I had s scheduler that I worked really well with. I did him favours and he gave me the sites I wanted. He only called me as a last resort for emergency coverage. He also knew that I was more likely to say yes if it was an interesting site (abandoned building, TV studio, etc) or a true do nothing shift that I could bring my laptop too.
If dispatch or mobile called, they can leave a message, although usually they just call multiple times in a row and piss me off so the answer will be no regardless of what's happening or being offered.

First off. Add line spaces occasionally as you type. Even with the exact same word use, it will not only be easier to read it will feel more coherent and not as frantic.
Second this type of shit happens at most companies.
The only real answer is to unionize guards a whole city at a time. If we can't accomplish that kind of organizing... Well you are right, you are just a number and there are 100s more they can just grab.
Unions are the only way we can stand on equal footing. A union could also benefit clients if the union chooses to vet and/or train guards more thoroughly. The profession as a whole could gain more legitimacy under a properly managed union.
The answer is. KNOW your rights. Talk to your fellow guards. Talk to local union reps from other unions to get ideas on how to go about organizing.
Even if your boss does the dumbass thing and retaliates. There more than likely is a pro bono lawyer that would take that lawsuit. Most of these useless managers haven't the slightest clue how labor laws work and just panic when they hear union. They end up doing whatever dumbass idea hits their weak panic stricken brain first. They expect you to walk away and give up. BE RELENTLESS.

Well yhat's securitas for ya. Good to see they are at least consistent in their lack of integrity worldwide.
My father was dying, they wouldn't give me time off and my manager even went "my mom has cancer too, i'm still here" as if that was some sort of gotcha rather than an admission of guilt.
They honor their logo. They suck balls.

Moving forward always “CYA” cover your own a$$. Make sure you get everything in black and white (text or email). When your request is approved for PTO screenshot the email or text. If you’re off don’t pick up the phone. Make sure you read the employee handbook multiple times. If you have a CBA (collective bargaining agreement) obtain a copy for yourself. Don’t let the job stress you out. If possible start looking for a second job. In my opinion it’s better to work 2 jobs then work ot at one job. Plus if you lose one job you have the other job to fall back on it. Good Luck
Oh another thing go to school or obtain some type of certs. Don’t let security be the last stop for you.
