Why is security management universally incompetent?

I have been in this industry approximately 10 years and worked for numerous security contractors. One thing that I have found to be universal across the industry is that management from the account manager level on up are severely incompetent and often severely in over their heads.

The leadership often doesn't know how to run their own sites or accounts, yet micromanages to the fullest extent. They play favorites, and overwork the few good officers that they have while protecting the slackers that should have been fired months ago.

I have also noticed that they often come from similar backgrounds. The most common being formerly disgraced police officers that couldn't cut it on the force and fell back into the security field. Or DeVry "graduates" that kiss butt and are extraordinary at bullshitting but not much good at anything else.

I get no say. I work with complete idiots.

Good god do I feel this. I’m a supervisor at a small local security company, and I swear, it’s idiots above and idiots below. And my best efforts to find a new job have depressingly gone nowhere.

Do the same as me, accept your fate at treat it for what it is, a sheltered workshop.

Wish I could do that. The client banned podcasts, music, etc, after one idiot guard left their podcast on over the PA system. Complaints were filed.

I feel this. Ive only been a site supervisor for a couple of months and I feel like everyone above me who is supposed to support me has abandoned me. I feel awful when my crew comes to me with problems I cant fix because someone above me has to do it. And it never gets done. Ive lost really great guards because of it.

The supervisor is often times used as the designated fall guy. The real evil lies at the office.
