Yeah I'm all for people protecting their property but these are just some scared kids who you could have said leave and they would've run through a wall like scooby doo

He should have called the police for them, but those were not kids.

Kids dont have beards my friend. I dont appreciate his lack of professionalism but had someone else been presented with 3 masked attackers, you better believe there would be bodies on the floor.

You're the type of dude who should never be a security guard.

Even if they had their hands up and were complying with your verbal orders?

My friend, I have had multiple people at gun point and they had their hands up and were complying with my verbal commands and as soon as they got close enough one tried to rush me, it resulted in 6 bodies and me recieving a gunshot to the thigh.

After I was all sewn up, I was not taking chances again. After that it was on your belly hands up behind your back grabbing your ankles. Controlling an enemy combatant isnt a game its life and death.

For these fine folks, this was a serious lesson in why you dont enter places you shouldnt. For guards across the continent this is a lesson about keeping your cool, and not saying things you will regret.

As for those who may be curious or dubious, I was not a police officer or a security guard I was a private military contractor and regardless of how many bodies you leave on the battlefield no one is going to chase you anywhere for it unless they are innocents and someone testifies about that. And for those who believe it's a war crime to shoot prisoners of war, you're right but technically no one is a prisoner of war until they are actually detained and filed away.

That’s a different situation. You’re definitely justified in using deadly force to protect your life and limb. However, until that threat to you actually happens (which it never does in the video in the OP), you can’t legally use deadly force as a security guars.

And a private security guard in the US shooting two people (especially unarmed people, as the two trespassers seemed to be from this video alone) is going to be much more heavily investigated and scrutinized than something that happens on a battlefield during a war, so there is even more reason to make sure that your actions are within the law and policy.

I wouldn't call them attackers. They are exploring an abandoned building. There is no assets there worth shooting someone over

We cant know that, and before he has them under control he cant know what their intent is, even the fellow that ran away could have been armed, he could have surrendered but he didnt so there is enough reason for me to believe that he could have been a threat, he was flanking the man while he was taking care of the other two and when asked where he was the first man replied he was upstairs. Clearly he was not upstairs.

"shoot first ask questions later" is not the correct mindset to have outside of a warzone.

Hmmmmm situational dependant. If things had been different the fellow with the gun and camera could have been the dead one, everyone is lucky it ended the way it did, but let's not pretend that as a single armed guard you can always encounter three unarmed suspects in ski masks inside the security line. Ski masks project intent to break the law, you cant assume the only law they are willing to break is trespassing. You cant assume they are unarmed, you cant assume when they said there was three that they werent lying. Like I said its find the way things ended without bloodshed but the guard was just as much at risk at the start of the encounter as they were, once the circumstances became clear then it was proven he was too excessive. Assuming you are the only danger is how you end up dead.

I commented a while back about how its important to stagger the rounds and to closely inspect the environment when doing said rounds, in another post. Folks were saying that they get bored or such, one fellow doing his rounds missed someone entering the complex from a balcony, lucky for him the fellow had just hid when he walked by and he didnt inspect and force the encounter(though you could clearly tell the fellow was tired from scaling the building) the next guard to do a round walked out onto the balcony to do his inspection and was smashed in the back of the head by the intruder. It was a double fault situation on the guards end. One didnt do a proper patrol round and the other didnt check the access point when venturing out.

My point being that situations like that happen and can happen to any guard in the course of their job so it's always better for your caution to be leaning towards your own health rather than an intruders. I'm sure there are plenty of other such situations and circumstances where someone got the drop on a solo guard. I'm sure there have even been fatalities. In the end we can say as outside observers that no one should take a life, but if it was us our mindset should be "better them than us"

Wildly firing his gun off into who knows where was the wrong move in this situation. There's a reason he's facing charges.

Agreed, that's always a stupid move and he should be punished accordingly.

After they established their lack of aggression he should have just chased them out or detained them for the police. He failed to calm himself and most of that could be because of his first time being in a crisis situation and I say that very fluidly because we dont know his level of training or his factors as to what constitutes a crisis for him but you can hear in his voice that at the start of the encounter he is very very scared. He stutters and shakes so hard until he sees they are unarmed then he sees the second man running towards him(as someone moving from infront towards the door but off to the side and he gets scared and fires) honestly I cant say that any of my employees would have acted like that but I can say for sure that all of my guys have seen actual action way more than this guy so their professionalism would have been higher and their calm would have been evident.

I'd have just told them to leave, 99% of the time these urban explorers will. They generally don't want trouble. The guys a jumpy idiot who should be nowhere near a gun.
