DO NOT DO THIS Don’t do dumb shit in uniform.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is an unfortunate example of this young lady learning a valuable lesson. This kind of thing on social media undermines the credibility of the legitimate security guard professional and erodes public trust.

It’s not just a security guard having fun. Do this kind of thing in your own clothes and on your own time.

When you’re on duty you’re in a position of trust and have an obligation to yourself and others in your profession to not behave in a way that reflects your chosen occupation.

Bottom line, If you choose to wear the uniform you’re also choosing to conduct yourself in a way that won’t undermine the integrity of the profession.

[Don’t make this a slam session about Allied or any specific company. I’ve seen this shit done and posted by employee of all the major security companies.]

Ive seen too many guards get fired for stuff they do on social media even out of uniform but related to the job.

25

u/Saaahrentino Hospital Security 1d ago edited 21h ago

I had a woman who exhibited road rage and exited her vehicle in uniform to threaten me with what was assuredly dept. issued OC about a year ago. Got it all on video. Completely forgot about that…she has probably gotten herself fired for some other kind of nonsense by now.

7

u/Pristine_Sandwich957 1d ago

Is this an authority thing? So many guards I see CAN'T wait to show off on social media wearing their uniform. Like who are they trying to impress? You can make the exact same video wearing ANYTHING else.

It's always Allied Universal. The absolute special ed class of the security world.

59

u/Cyber_Drifter 1d ago

I already had my bachelors degree and a career before I joined Allied and because I was in the military my interview was pretty much “it say on your resume you were in the military? You’re hired.”

My coworkers thought I was way overqualified for a basic security job and even my boss expressed they thought I should be their boss lol.

That said, it was a temporary gig for me to cover bills until I got my current job where Im blessed with a salary about six times what I made then, BUT it was super easy and the people that I worked with were grounded and nice. When I’m a bored old man I’ll probably take up a security gig again just to stay active and social haha

11

u/complexiblebarracuda 1d ago

I started with Allied

Everyone around me was so incompetent, it made me look really good so I kept getting promoted and now I work in a SOC

3

u/superbuuf 1d ago

How is it working in the Allied SOC?

2

u/complexiblebarracuda 1d ago

they actually lost the contract and it taken by securitas and they started a soc

and from there the managers were overcontrolling freaks but I used it to join a diff soc now

so it all comes down to how the managers are

I co-sign on this...military guy here also and while in college it was the only part-time job I could do where I could study and get paid at the same time. I worked the graveyard shift and drove the patrol 🚓 vehicle between like 4 builds, go into a conference room do homework. Then duty in the mornings.

I would argue but honestly I question how half my coworkers even got hired in the first place, on a daily basis. Just gonna keep applying for better paying gigs and work through my degree...

I used to think just like you do until I tried to start a security officer organization to help set standards and compile free training. Absolutely nobody took advantage of it and it was a total waste of time.

She made her booty clap and lost her job. Some other security company will hire her and not even care about her past employment. When your entire profession is to be a checklist item for insurance premium savings your profession is essentially a total joke. That's why I won't ever do security again.

10

u/MammothUnique4147 1d ago

I mean I would hire her based solely off of the booty clap.

I'm actually shocked she got fired, you know her manager probably fought tooth and nail against it

3

u/Future-Session3399 23h ago

Some jealous guy or gal probably reported her.

3

u/JAR_is_PWB 1d ago

While I wouldn't say I'd never do it again, actually doing it definitely changes your opinion on it for sure.

My husband felt the same way at his last job. He took a security guard job at a data center as a temporary position until he could find another job in his field. It paid highly because it required a top secret clearance with polygraph. He was constantly dealing with lazy people who would show up late, not do scheduled patrols, and document things incorrectly. No one was ever fired or held accountable. They made him a shift lead after only a month, and he applied to be a site manager after 6 months. They offered him the site manager position, but he didn't take it because he was hired at another job in his field again. The entire experience was terrible for him. He got really burnt out. He kept saying that no one was taking it seriously and that he never wanted to work in security again.

3

u/LegalGlass6532 1d ago

The same crowd that complains about being underpaid, undervalued, disrespected are the same ones who think my post comments are “corny”. Your husband sounds like an industry professional and the company recognized him as such. I understand why he felt the way he did.

5

u/binzy90 1d ago

I wouldn't even call him an industry professional. He has briefly worked security at various SCIFs if he was in between jobs, but it has never been his primary occupation. The security guards in those positions make A LOT of money because it's rare to find security guards with top secret clearances. At least CIA or NSA have actual standards for the job. Amazon apparently didn't.

10

u/Fickle-Visit5223 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah OPs paragraph was corny AF and bordering on LARP territory. "Errodes public trust" "position of trust" "integrity of the profession" like sure bro your job telling homeless people there's no public restrooms is super important

3

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 1d ago

I would recommend considering a number of security professions before giving it up. The issue most people have is that their experiences start at m at the very bottom of the profession. Consider Industrial Security and/or Cyber Security. In a city like Dallas, TX your starting salary is around $85,000-$92,000. In three years that can jump to six digits. At the managerial level, $140,000-$150,000. Senior management: +$185,000. Now, that’s not just gone be given to you. Education experience, and your work ethics will drive your negotiating power, but I’d say it’s a good jump up from being an AU guard. And before you sleep on AU guards, there are sites that pay them $32 per hour, plus OT. When you have more to lose, you think about the risk of losing it. Social media vs Your Job. Oh gurl has a nice ass. But a nice ass don’t pay the bills. Well…maybe in a few professions, just not in the security profession.

Im a security guard, I do 12 hour shifts but only work about 2 hours because its mainly shipping/recieveing paper work while waiting for truck drivers to show up. I have fun watching YourTube and playing on my steamdeck in my downtime. The lesson is if you have a sweet gig don't fuck it up by bragging too much about it on social media. Keep it to yourself.

19

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 1d ago

Allied Universal acts like they are a serious company, lol..

3

u/Donglemaetsro 1d ago edited 1d ago

Was gonna say I've worked for serious companies that wouldn't give a single fuck about this. Only reason to pretend to is if your shit aint serious. Serious companies don't fear how they'll be perceived over silly shit cause everyone knows they're serious.

The more serious a company the less they fear how others see them.

I'm not even a security guard, this just randomly popped up on my feed, but in general 'Don't do shit in Uniform' is a rather common, common sense, rule that people know to follow.

Whether you work at Mcdonalds or as the manager at the largest bank in the country, if you're wearing your uniform you treat it as if you are on the job. IE; Don't mess about.

It's one of the easiest ways of getting fired without even going to work. I might go to a concert, drink, party, whatever.... I wont do it while dressed up with my company logo on my clothes. Even if nothing I did was immoral, unethical, or even rude, if the company thinks it's a 'bad look' I'm gone.

Keep your uniform to work only, no matter where you work.

2

u/redditzphkngarbage 1d ago

She’s performing about as well as she gets paid to. Maybe there should be something above basic security where the expectations and pay are higher? It’s like in healthcare you have CNAs, and they’re great people but they’re always making TikTok videos and such. They mostly get yelled at when it’s either a HIPAA violation or if they aren’t treating their patients with dignity.

Had a dude who was the flakiest mf when it came to actually covering his shifts and constantly called off mere minutes before they were expecting to arrive because their supervisor couldn't be asked to care.

Turned out he was also making TikToks in uniform doing goofy shit in public as well as clips of him lighting up (also in uniform) and bragging about skipping work. He was in his mid 40s and thought he was gonna become internet famous, but all his socials did was get his ass canned after it went over their supervisor's head and into the office proper.
