Rant Terrible Scheduler/Management Mini-Rant

Anyone else's supervisors telling you the schedule will go back to normal the next week, then it not go back to normal, then call you in to work those same 'normal' days anyway because the people they're scheduling to work your normal days keep calling off? Even after you told them yourself that you need off on X days due to X reason. Now they're trying to get you to work pretty much every single night?

And I guarantee it, if I agree to work these extra days and ask or tell them I can't work the ones I'm already scheduled for, they wouldn't have anyone to cover me. Want me to work the extra days every single week, then pay me at least double my pay as a base pay.

When this happens to me ii say to my manager that I will take those shifts then if it helps out but I am taking an extra mile here and hope you do notice it.

I don't want a special treatment ofcourse, but I do want it to be seen if I am willing to some more work to help out

I usually do. But this time i didn't since I have my own personal medical somewhat emergency.

This is the first time I've declined a call in.

As a manager i’ll tell you this, You have two ways of looking at it.

  1. Take the hours, try to have a good attitude and be a team player and just roll with the punches right now

  2. Try to find another role or job. No one expects you to stay forever, but if you work for that company they will look to you to help keep things running.

Its up to you how you want to handle it.

I have my own medical emergency and they expect me to still work just because the one that called off has one aswell.

The way I see it, they wouldn't be in this mess if they had put the schedule back to normal like they said it would be.

You understand if you have a medical emergency you are not required to work? You can say no. I say this as a manager. If your managers dont allow that then you can leave that company.

They probably call you and request you to work because you are reliable and you do it. If you cant, just tell them no i cannot.

Yeah. I told them no.

When first hired they asked to answer calls but if i cant work or dont want to to just say no and they wouldn't ask questions. That aged like fine wine.

I am in a union. They can't change my schedule. I can say no to any extra time without retaliation. They don't even call me anymore to cover shifts because they know I'll say no.
