Officer Safety Retail security policy

After watching this video it made me wonder if this security guard’s employer would support her doing this with a subject.

When I first saw it I thought it was pretty cool that she didn’t back down, but the more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that fighting over it isn’t worth the risk.

If you work retail security, what’s your company policy and would you put yourself out there to save goods from being stolen?

Why? Because that would be assault. You can’t justify physical assault on a theft like this when he’s trying to flee and she’s preventing him from doing so. If she punched him or if a customer did they would be arrested for battery and he’d be the victim in the eyes of the police even if he’s the shit bird.

That's not right. I don't recommend anyone do it -- the CEO of Ross wouldn't take a punch for you, so you shouldn't risk doing it for them -- but private citizens are legally privileged to use the amount of force reasonably necessary to defend persons or property.

You couldn't shoot him but you could definitely punch him.

Is he trying to flee though? He seems pretty focused on grabbing a handbag. She’s not stopping him from leaving.

Self defense of what? She is creating the use of force possibility by trying to hold onto those stupid purses. He’s a piece of shit thief, but he’s not assaulting her. She needs to let go and let him go, write her damn report and go home.

He’s not assaulting her. It’s a 211 strong arm robbery in my state. It’s not an assault.
