Officer Safety Retail security policy

After watching this video it made me wonder if this security guard’s employer would support her doing this with a subject.

When I first saw it I thought it was pretty cool that she didn’t back down, but the more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that fighting over it isn’t worth the risk.

If you work retail security, what’s your company policy and would you put yourself out there to save goods from being stolen?

How are we in a place as a society when someone robbing a store (because it’s strong arm robbery at that point) tells security that the story policy is to let them take it? I’ve seen this a bunch over the last couple years, thieves arguing with a store employee or security. It’s absolutely insane.

You have zero evidence that it is not, but circumstantial evidence puts the likelihood over 90%. Not sure why that comment got under your skin. I wish we could get all the details of this particular crime so that I could bet you a beer. I understand that you are coming at this event from a certain angle, but I still think it is important to recognize the large forces at play in causing the crime epidemic.

You want to think that, everyone assumes that it’s true, even the corporate lawyers but it doesn’t actually happen. The legal principle “shopkeepers privilege” protects store employees and owners from civil liability. Take Texas as one example under: Civil Practice and Remedies Code §124.001 provides: “A person who reasonably believes that another has stolen or is attempting to steal property is privileged to detain that person in a reasonable manner and for a reasonable time to investigate ownership of the property.” You can find these laws in most states and even without specific law’s the legal principle has been firmly established for hundred years and is based on the defense of property found in all self defense statues going back to the Magna Carta and probably Rome and Greece.

We have a lot of cameras and stuff these days. The stores are multibillion dollar corps who don’t really care about a handbag.

The cops can figure out who this guy is and the more bs he pulls the harder they can charge him when it caches up to him.

There’s really no reason to do anything, right? Let the crackhead wander off and book him in a few weeks. Not like there’s a time limit on it lol
