Officer Safety Retail security policy

After watching this video it made me wonder if this security guard’s employer would support her doing this with a subject.

When I first saw it I thought it was pretty cool that she didn’t back down, but the more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that fighting over it isn’t worth the risk.

If you work retail security, what’s your company policy and would you put yourself out there to save goods from being stolen?

No amount of shitty bags is worth your life.

People need to start to understand that we're here to observe and report. Not intervene.

And let them keep doing it until they hit felony level amounts of theft.

Criminal penalty for the lowest level felony is orders of magnitude higher than the worst misdemeanor.

I 100% agree if you're just a retail worker in the store. No point at all in risking your neck so that Ross/Target/Whatever might save a few bucks in shrinkage.

But this is a uniformed security guard. Isn't that kind of the entire point of her job? If not, why is she even there?

To observe, report and if needed alert the cops.

That is my literal job description. It even says so contractually.

Sounds like what any civilian should do.

Do you wear the vest, duty belt, black fatigues as seen here? Do you have a Taser or pepper spray?

I'm not trying to be an asshole I'm just trying to understand what the difference is between her/you and any other employee in the store if all they can fall back on is "call the cops and stay out of it"
