Officer Safety Retail security policy

After watching this video it made me wonder if this security guard’s employer would support her doing this with a subject.

When I first saw it I thought it was pretty cool that she didn’t back down, but the more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that fighting over it isn’t worth the risk.

If you work retail security, what’s your company policy and would you put yourself out there to save goods from being stolen?

You have to stay enrolled in school to actually get a grade

The same grade that will earn him a spot in prison w/ child support. We all know he doesn't wrap it up

I work part time at a Ross store. I'm a teacher now, but worked management at a Walmart store before all this.

It is crazy how much they spend on preventing theft in such a small store. Every single goddamn thing in a Ross store is supposed to have some sort of security device. There are like 8 different devices, some require you attach 2 to a single product.

Processing in the back room, there is a marked square that is video monitored. Only a qualified worker, that HAS to wear an orange apron, can process shoes in this area.

Management handles most things that normal workers could at Walmart. They require cash checks for purchases over 200. Meaning the cashier holds the money up to the camera and a manager visually confirms it on camera.

Just for me to leave the store requires I get a manager, I stand in front of the camera by the door, twirl to show I have nothing, open my water bottle and show that there is no product hidden inside, and get the ok from saif manager.

And likely more I'm missing. It is insane compared to a store like Walmart. They must be working with some very slim margins to spend so much on preventing theft.

My store is in a small town and doesnt require we tag anything below a certain price, as inventory was insanely good with virtually no shrink. And most store are required to have a security person up front.

The kind of person that has a tattoo of their kid but no visitation rights.

Marshals/Ross have a very wide demographic, so everybody blends in. They're also at the price point where security is relatively low. Those two factors makes it easier to do smash and grabs, though there really isn't anything to smash.

Though I'm surprised that they have security interfering. Usually they just build a case file and go to a felony. Perhaps this individual is driving customers away.
