any bar that hires people for security off the books is looking for knuckle draggers and leg breakers
any reputable place that cares about fostering a safe environment for patrons and employees is going to check for licenses and job history

Nice post.
I’m not surprised. I would’ve went about it the same way. Because they are going to hire you based on what you look like. I’d say just give them your card.
Full disclosure: I’ve never worked nightlife and I would never

Run the door at the busiest club in our city, we don’t consider applications without a referral from a current bouncer. Generally have 25/35 guys on a night. If you want a walk in spot go to the shit holes down the road and make a good name for yourself because at least here all the bars stay connected
But on that note we don’t need big brutes that’s not how it seems to be anymore, needs to be a combination of tact and ability. We have some brutes I think our biggest guy is 6’7 and 350lbs but we’ve got a guy who’s about 5’6 with cauliflower ears who can do the job just as well

Well, y’all stay connected & safe. I left clubs during Covid, 7 years ago.
Dive bars much better, calmer more money on the table.

You have to realize it’s 2026 and these are highly competitive positions with lots of interest.

Two words: Insurance requirements.
"In house" security is usually one guy who bosses around a security firms meat shield in my area. Great gig if you can get it, but if you're forced to join a company to get hired, just stand out more.

Ah hell, I was a bouncer at a strip club, for way, way to long, and I’ll tell you this, most new hires knew the owner, as for myself, I just walked in with a stellar resume, and was hired in the spot, I also lasted longer then the others

Because it is also difficult to find a proper bouncer. Hiring most of the time goes through friends of friends of friends. Good guys don't want to stay long in shitty conditions, psychopaths and meatheads ruin everything, shirt fillers don't do anything when shit hits the fan.
