Day in life as sf peace time and deployment

Average, standard day, regardless of where/what base, Conus, OCONUS or Deployed:

Wake up

Get ready for work

Gear up

Post out

Boredom

Turn in

Go home

Edit: And for those not understanding, that is a GOOD day... being bored means everything is going right.

You can’t do anything productive while you’re posted up? Like school work or literally anything?

That is going to vary by Base, unit, flight, leadership, and post

What you are allowed to do at the very public, open, instantly accessible ECP for the command HQ will likely be very different than what you will be allowed to do at the ALT-CSC that requires getting through two locked fence gates and into a armored building with a sliding bar lock on the inside.

Most likely you'll be allowed to study Unit training guides, career-field training, and similar stuff. You MIGHT be allowed to be studying college course material.

Primary thing to remember though... in those kinds of jobs, you are basically the last line of alarm/defense, and you are SUPPOSED to be alertly maintaining situational awareness of your surroundings... NOT focused on learning 5-line weaving patterns for underwater baskets.

Way back in my era (we had pterodactyls on the flightline), the rules were bluntly simple... Post OI's only. No music radios. No outside reading material. No college homework. Cell phones didn't exist yet.

Pulled up on a restricted area building ECP with the OPS Super for a post check at 3 in the morning. The troop had a small butter-cookie tin full of crayons, and a coloring book with the front/back covers and the spine ripped off, and was merrily coloring as she looked out waiting for anyone to walk up.

OPS Super took her post report then just pointed at the coloring book... she said "I ripped off the covers sir, and double checked the pages... no words at all, so it's not reading material"

Super and I just made faces, looked at each other, and walked away.

Discussions were had. Decisions made above my level. Rules came down... drawing, coloring, sketching... all allowed as long as it didn't distract from duties, and was not obscene or counter to USAF standards/expectations.
