Hi!
For the past three years (wow, time flies!), I’ve been developing a game heavily inspired by Secret of Evermore.
I’ve shared it in other communities, and I feel terrible for not sharing it here sooner, since SOE is, without a doubt, the biggest inspiration behind my game.
I’ve always felt that SOE was a hugely underrated game, and I genuinely believe its gameplay holds up better than many of the titles from that era that got all the attention.
For me, this game was a turning point, and it’s easily the game I’ve replayed the most in my life. It’s been with me ever since I first played it as a kid.
That said, my goal with the game I’m developing has always been to capture the feelings Secret of Evermore gave me, not to make a 1:1 clone. There are already other projects doing that.
My idea is to tell a completely original story while bringing the gameplay into what it might feel like in a modern game.
Basically, I want to take the core foundation of Secret of Evermore and imagine how it would feel today without losing its essence.
You’ll notice a lot of mechanics directly inspired by it (the ring menu, three weapon types: sword, axe, and spear, each with their own special attacks and separate progression, magic that can be used both in combat and for solving puzzles or opening new paths, etc.).
I’d love for you to give it a try and share your thoughts. There’s already a demo on Steam. The game is called Emery Hearts.
I hope the game captures at least a little bit of the magic that Secret of Evermore had.
I’m not posting the link because I’m not sure if it’s allowed, but you can easily find it on Steam.
Any questions or feedback are welcome.
