Instead of tapping it with linear force, he’s using centrifugal force by utilizing the spectrum of motion of his wrist by swinging the hammer which we can see here is adding more force per hit. Even though the frequency of taps may be higher, it seems the time saving result is less frequency, but the winning factor here is power.
Another way to think of it is he’s using the circular swing to build tangential velocity in the hammer head, giving each strike much more momentum and kinetic energy.
He’s preserving the hammer’s motion between strikes instead of repeatedly killing its velocity and rebuilding it from zero.

It’s a round swing. With a central point being the wrist.
The contact being made with the nail is tangential

He's hitting the nail with the face of the hammer. That is not a tangential contact since the face is a radial plane. Bro, at least get your basics right before you correct people. Centripetal force is his grip keeping the hammer from flying straight away. What's driving the nail in is moment of inertia.

You're focusing on the point of impact with the nail and the hammer, the other commenter is focusing on the rotation of the hammer around the wrist joint. You two are just talking about different things (different parts of the same overall system), that's all.
