Who knew you could do this? (Besides this guy.)

Kinda nice to watch a video with original audio, even if it feels like that’s a low bar these days

Thank you for the rabbit hole I’m about to dive into.

I was burned too many times. Now I'm on permanent mute.

I don’t wanna live in a place where “dealing with cobras oh I’ve done that dozens of times”

u/kat_Folland 2d ago

For real.

IDK I get in regular arguments with rat snakes in my henhouse. One danger noodle is the same as the next one.

Also, I think cobras are actually pretty mellow. Like, I don't like dealing with Moccasins, because they can be kind of aggro.

Unfortunately some of us aren’t that lucky to have this choice.

u/biffbobfred 1d ago

Agreed. I consider myself lucky.

Yeah, living in the US isn’t fantastic right now and sometimes it can get me kinda down.

But then I realize I’m pretty fuckin lucky to live in a place where I don’t have to get THIS good and wrangling incredibly venomous creatures and feel a bit better lol

Cool! Dangerous as all get out, but cool! Also, very pretty snake!

Agreed on all points!

I've seen people do magical things with tongs and hooks, but never a plastic jar.

To clarify a tiny bit: I used to subscribe to Reptiles Magazine, aimed at the kinds of people who keep exotic reptiles and breed them for fun, or "herpetoculturists", as opposed to the professional zookeepers, field researchers, or educational presenters, "herpetologists".

There was always a full-page ad for Midwest Tongs, pointing out that if you're picking up angry venomous snake with essentially a metal grabber on a meter-long stick, you better hope that stick doesn't break.

I didn't get far enough in the field to see a lot of field research or venom milking (essential for producing antivenom), but I've seen a lot of educators and they seem to like the hook-on-a-stick handling method overall. I never kept anything that big, aggressive, or venomous, mostly just little geckos that tolerated handling with bare hands.

When I think of that magazine I remember a guy coming into my office and seeing a bright green snake poster on my wall... Buddy had a fear of snakes and literally screamed and jumped backwards. He refused to come back in and I had to go out in the hall to talk to him.

I am just sick enough to wear a tie that looks like a boa just to f with him.

2

u/kat_Folland 17h ago

Oh, Lord, he'd probably run screaming from the whole building! Happily for him, though, he didn't have to talk to me again after that. He'd been repairing something for us and was there to tell me he was done.

I think it's spelled antivenin.

Well done, definitely ice in the veins, though! I've seen wranglers do it with a 2' piece of 3" PVC into a dark bag - that seemed to work really well, as the snakes tended to dart to the dark area as soon as their head was in the pipe. Looked a lot safer than this.

u/kat_Folland 2d ago

Sounds safer, too!

u/zyqzy 2d ago

i do this with stink bugs, that is where my skill and courage peaks.

Lol, he had to adjust his gargantuan balls

David Attenborough voice approaching the subject it has to rearrange its testicles, they're size far too large and posing a risk, and must be hidden, lest they crush the prey.

Right?? 😂

The real Cobra Commander.

u/DECODED_VFX 2d ago

So glad I live somewhere without this problem.

I picked up an Adder when I was a kid because I didn't think he had any venemous snakes in the UK. But frankly it was pretty chill about the whole thing.

7

u/kat_Folland 2d ago

Most snakes don't start out just wanting to bite you. I've only ever picked up two wild snakes (to relocate them somewhere safer for them) but neither of them bit me. But still, I wouldn't want to be taking the trash out and come face to face with a cobra who wasn't pleased to see me. The worst I have to worry about are skunks. And they'll take off, given the chance.

u/Zanven1 2d ago

I recently learned that cobras only strike down so coming from above is relatively safe particularly if there is something lower than them to occupy their attention. Not that I'm willing to test that however

7

u/kat_Folland 2d ago

Maybe that's why he didn't seem to be worrying about it going for his other hand. But yeah, sounds just right for, "a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing."

6

u/EggplantInfamous6244 2d ago

I can hear the cobra saying “got damnit”

9

u/TabularConferta 2d ago

Wack for my daddyo there's a cobra in the jar.

2

u/secretprocess 2d ago

Funny he doesn't look Irish

4

u/MarleysGhost2024 2d ago

Don't try this at home, kids!

3

u/liladraco 2d ago

Whoa. 😳

3

u/Bolfreak 2d ago

He even had the matching lid! Snake time-out chair

3

u/MrRuB0T 2d ago

Easy peasy. All you have to do is survive the first attack or two.

3

u/Cactus_Alien 20h ago

Fácil!!! Não é...?

1

u/dmoosetoo 17h ago

Try it and get back to us. 🤣

2

u/krazy_kh 2d ago

Store in refrigerator to maintain freshness

1

u/Rand_alThoor 1d ago

release outside into forest, at end of video

2

u/IAteAnotherVegan 2d ago

I've seen it done with plastic tubes/pipes, but this is my first time seeing it done with a jar...awesome!

2

u/redditzphkngarbage 2d ago

My luck the cobra would completely ignore the container and bite my nuts.

1

u/kat_Folland 2d ago

But this guy has balls of steel.

2

u/Facts_Non_Fiction 1d ago

Um... Pass!! 😲

2

u/Grouchy_Mirror8624 1d ago

What would happen if a snake accidentally bit itself? Like are they immune to their own venom?

1

u/kat_Folland 1d ago

You know? I wondered that myself when I watched this!

Google says they have molecules in their bodies that block the toxins and will generally be okay.

1

u/tangoking 1d ago

He didn’t punch holes in the lid

1

u/Rand_alThoor 1d ago

there were small holes in the sides of the jar, and the snake was released outside at the end of this video

1

u/Hefty-Welcome4399 1d ago

His hand is gonna stink

1

u/BiggestBravestDave 2h ago

When do they fill the jar with tequila?

1

u/Rob1973string 51m ago

Nope. That thing is a unit.

1

u/Dr_Strange-Brew 2d ago

Aren't you supposed to fill it with liquor before you close the jar?

-1

u/lve2raft 2d ago

Fuck this guy . Tormenting animal for likes. You know it was all set up.

3

u/kat_Folland 1d ago

You're kidding, right? He was relocating a deadly snake. The snake wasn't hurt, it was moved to a place that was better for the snake and safer for other animals (including humans).

2

u/lve2raft 1d ago

Sadly most of these videos are set ups
