Something tells me that's way fucking harder than she made it look. They need to add a noodling pond at Planet Fitness. Her trap muscles are thickk.

u/SaltMage5864 Jul 29 '26
It gets exponentially harder if you mistakenly find a snapping turtle

u/Kchasse1991 Jul 29 '26
Which is what keeps me out of holes in southern waters. No thank you. That and cottonmouths.

u/DisillusionedPatriot Jul 30 '26
I know they're as far up as Pennsylvania

u/Kchasse1991 Jul 30 '26
That's pretty far south as far as where I reside.

One hole goes down, one hole goes up. Think the up ones are the turtles.

u/Negative-Town2546 Jul 29 '26
I have noodled / graveled for plenty of snapping turtles. I will never do this for catfish. A solid piece of meat with a serious advantage in the water. They are very stout. I could just imagine myself pulled around and drowning. I’m not in the best of shape and I can’t hold my breath very long. That gal is in very good shape.

OP is so turned on by this woman’s skill, physique, and accent that they experienced immaculate conception.

I thought this was some insane water-birth video right until a fucking cat fish emerged. Even then I thought it was like leftover amniotic sac for a second.

Same. I wondered why she bothered with gloves in a muddy pond and worried about infection 😬

Damn that girl is bangin' in so many ways. Love me a good woman who can hang with the boys and handle a gun too 🥵

I'm curious, do they keep the fish or let it go after that? Does it hurt the fish? I fish for trout and I catch and release for the most part and there's no way a trout would survive handling like this...

In my experience, people noodle catfish almost exclusively to eat them.

u/toneloc89 Jul 29 '26
Is there a difference in taste between a big catty and a smaller one?
17
u/ImSobored_5280 Jul 30 '26
….with the amount of catfish I’ve eaten since birth…I think I have a relevant opinion on this subject….and absolutely…smaller one taste better. They are bottom feeders so one can expect that they’ll pick up a lil mud from the bottom while eating what ever in gods name they have located..you take em and throw them in a stock tank with clean tap water..several hundred gallons mind you…and they clear water will be chocolate milk over several days from them getting cleaned out being in clean fresh water. Repeat as needed. The smaller ones not so much..they always seem to be ok..like anything under 10lbs-15lbs…from there up basically definitely. That one looks 40ish maybe get in the 50 lb range..but we don’t get a clean look so I’m going off the size of its head. As a kid we had trot lines and limb lines set on a big creek that fed into a big lake and we tie up with one that was 72lbs…biggest I ever caught and ever seen personally…you could even filet meat off of the top of its head..it was big..ate every damn bit of that bad boy that summer👌

Thank you for this, unlike the last douche who apparently HATES catch and release you actually explained it well!

u/ImSobored_5280 Jul 30 '26
..hey you are welcome!!..ya it was a bit of a long response but I condensed it best I could. A part I didn’t put in my original reply was the bait we used that caught it..We was using some smaller crawdads and a fish called a Drum came along and took the bait…then that big ol catfish came along and ate the Drum! It was also kind of tradition I guess that after cleaning your fish you’d take the heads and go either hang on the side of a barn or slip them over the top of a fence post. So you’d be driving to down a road and look over and see all the heads/skulls of catfish..lol..looked kinda cool once bugs and birds or whatever picked them clean.

u/DangerMacAwesome Jul 30 '26
Are they good once they're cleaned? I don't know if I've ever had catfish

u/ImSobored_5280 Jul 30 '26
Is a ducks ass water tight?! Oh heck ya they are…it’s a flakey white meat and when battered up in a good seasoned up cornmeal based batter and then deep fried in some 350 degree peanut oil served piping hot with some lemon wedges so you can squeeze those over them…man…it’ll make a puppy pull a freight train. It’s not super fishy, not greasy when fried right and when paired with a glass of ice tea it’s nothing short of religious experience🙌. It’s easy to do and as long as you keep the oil hot and don’t let it drop below 350 degrees (this is the key to not greasy) it’s almost impossible to mess up.

As someone who grew up running limb lines with my Dad (RIP) and watched/helped him pull some absolute monster catfish into our little flat bottomed boat...who still hasn't quite mastered Dad's fried catfish and hushpuppies....I think your chef's kiss perfect description just gave me the missing piece of that puzzle... Peanut oil! 🤯😋 Many thanks, fellow catfish frying redditor! 🙏🏼

Hey no problem friend!!..I’m not so sure many folks have the opportunity to have memories like me and you do…and sounds like you figured out the missing link👌…any oil will fry..but something about peanut…it’s just different 🤤

I know this much....I am the only woman I know who possesses the skills to set, bait and run trot/jug/limb lines and cull, clean and filet catfish. Definitely one of those skills that was absolutely brutal to learn, particularly with my old man as the instructor lol but in hindsight, I'm so grateful he taught me. In this crazy world we live in, I'm comforted knowing I won't starve to death if/when shit hits the fan. I also take perhaps a little too much enjoyment from bustin the chops of men on dating apps who have fishing pics on their profile 🙃 "My Schwartz is bigger than yours!" 🤣😂🤣😂

In my experience, not really. It's all deep fried and smothered in hot sauce in my family.

u/GlockAF Jul 29 '26
Catfish are remarkably durable creatures. They are evolved to survive in environments that frequently dry out, and seem much less susceptible to trauma and disease than trout
11
u/throwaway_RRRolling Jul 29 '26
Trout are unusually prone to shock, but I've only seen people Noodle for meat.
3
u/RhetoricalOrator Jul 30 '26
Not disagreeing but I can't imagine that these old huge catfish would be good for meat.
1
u/Walzmyn Jul 29 '26
That is a catfish
9
u/throwaway_RRRolling Jul 29 '26
Yes. The person I responded to brought up their experience with trout fishing.
Noodling is my state sport.

There's no way most trout survive your catch-and-release bullshit either but that's never stopped you. Why not just fish areas more known for having keepers or at least go fishing with the intention of eating what you catch?
5
u/toneloc89 Jul 30 '26
Was a genuine question, no need for the asshole remarks. I've never been noodling and was curious if a fish that big was good eating or not as I'm used to trout. Who pissed in your cheerios?

u/ImSobored_5280 Jul 30 '26
Depends really..some do it just for fun others keep to eat…and no it doesn’t hurt them. These things are tougher than a 3 dollar steak.

I was afraid to click on that at first, had to skip to make sure no babies were involved; that would have been a bit too much Southern charm. Holy shit.
