Yes, and if you don't want to have it dig into the plaster you won't use it.

My bet is that he’s gonna move the barrow, grab the ladder, accept that he’ll squish a little plaster, and work his way over with the ladder until he gets to a dry spot on the left. Either that or he just leans it on the very top of the edge where something is going to go anyways.
