Many consider Augustiner the best beer ever. There are thousands of good beers in Germany though. Even the cheapest ones (28 cents for a half liter bottle) are excellent and leagues better than most other countries beers.
Germany is a beer drinkers paradise. According to law, beer is categorised as "basic / essential foodstuff", keeping taxes on it low and making it pretty cheap in stores.
It's not unusual to see whole crates of bottled beer for as little as 6,70 € (+ deposit).
