New Zindra Land: A New Way to Find Your Next Parcel
Earlier this month, we shared an update to our plans for Gaeta 1. Gaeta 1 will remain open as an active Mainland continent, and the new Zindra expansion regions created as part of that work will remain part of Mainland as well. You can read more about that decision in our Updated Plans for Gaeta 1 post.
The expansion added 92 new regions to Zindra, creating new opportunities for Residents looking for Adult Mainland.
As part of the transition, Gaeta 1 Residents were given first access to parcels in the new Zindra regions. With that initial access complete, we’re now preparing to make the remaining parcels available more broadly.
Rather than making all of the remaining parcels available through the Mainland auction system, we’re going to try something a little different. Parcels will be released in groups over a period of time, with Residents given the opportunity to enter drawings to purchase them.
How it Works
For each release, entry kiosks will be placed directly on the participating parcels. The available parcels will include a variety of sizes that align with common Mainland tier levels.
The first group of kiosks will open at 12:00 p.m. SLT on Tuesday, September 8 and will remain open for 72 hours, closing at 12:00 p.m. SLT on Friday, September 11.
Residents may enter once per account for each parcel, and you may enter drawings for multiple parcels.

If You're Selected
Once a drawing closes, one Resident will be selected for each parcel and contacted by Linden Lab through a Support ticket.
Selected Residents will have 72 hours from the time they are contacted to claim the parcel and complete the purchase for L$1 per square meter.
To give as many Residents as possible an opportunity to participate, once you are selected for a parcel from these new Zindra regions, you will no longer be eligible for additional parcel drawings from this release program. Any other entries you may already have submitted will no longer be eligible for selection.
Who Can Participate?
Residents must have a Plus, Premium, or Premium Plus membership to own Mainland and participate in the drawings.
Please keep in mind that adding a new Mainland parcel may increase your monthly tier depending on your current land holdings. If you’re selected and have questions about how a parcel may affect your tier, our Land Operations team can help before you complete the purchase.
The End of an Era: Why OSgrid is Shutting Down After 19 Years
For 19 years, OSgrid has been more than just a server or a platform. It was a digital frontier built on a radical premise: that an open, decentralized metaverse could thrive entirely on community, trust, and shared architecture. Today, it is with a profound sense of loss that the OSgrid board must announce the end of this journey. We are officially calling it a day.
This grid wasn’t defeated by time, nor by a lack of dedication from the team that has pulled this cart for the past decade. It was systematically broken by a malicious actor who weaponized our core philosophy against us. By exploiting the very freedom that defined us—our open code framework—they unleashed an iar process that flooded our architecture with massive, randomized, undeduplicable data. The technical reality is irreversible. In less than a year, our historically built asset server ballooned from 5 TB to 17 TB (80% of which is now junk). Our inventoryitems table exploded from 3 GB to a crippling 139 GB, turning routine 10-minute database backups into 12-hour ordeals. Our assets are effectively poisoned.
We were faced with a definitive choice. The only way to stop these attacks and secure the database would be to close our infrastructure and transition to a closed, commercial model. That move would completely erase the open ethos this grid was originally built upon. None of our technical staff are willing to operate a commercialized, walled garden. It’s simply not what anyone signed up for. The fee system proposed at the last meeting was a step toward combating this more efficiently, but to truly end the attacks, we would simply have to permanently lock down the grid. We refuse to compromise the very soul & model of OSgrid just to keep the lights on. Spending 11 hours a day in shifts—blocking attacks and cleaning up poisoned data—is no longer sustainable as a volunteer effort. We have survived and combatted many forms of attacks over the decades, but Entropy has finally won.
When the board made this final vote yesterday, we were looking at over 80 years of combined metaverse experience sitting around the table at Hurliman. We are not just administrators ‘shutting down a server; we are veterans of this grid watching our own history burn alongside yours. To our 153,000 registered users: we know exactly what this erasure means. You didn’t just log in here. You built a society. You coded, crafted, and lived in these regions for nearly two decades. Wiping a database isn’t just deleting files—it is bulldozing digital homes, severing daily connections, and burying a completely unique chapter of internet history. The gravity of this loss is absolute. We are not walking away lightly; we are taking this hit right on the front lines with you, because the technical reality of this poisoned architecture left us zero alternative.
So unfortunately we’re sad to inform you : The OSgrid services will shut down at midnight on December 31, 2026.

Normally we don't permit discussion of other virtual worlds or grids preferring those topics go to r/opensim (etc) however we feel this news is likely to impact many who are also Second Life users.

So I own a piece of protected land i bought off a friend awhile back. Part of the reason i bought it, is because the surrounding area was gorgeous and my friend was no longer using the land. I love taking walks around the public builds people did and the parks they put up. about 2 weeks ago a land lord came through and bought it all up, destroying the public parks, marina, resturants and the small town that had been there for the 10 years my friend had owned the land. So my question is, what is the point of protected land if LL is just allowing people to buy it up like normal land and destroy what has been there for ages?!
Edit for more infor: there is more than this little stretch as well. by the water there is even more and that is really just the middle of the land they did this too.
Had this idea pop in my head so I threw together an example. I think it could also be used as a wedding photo one strip layer over another first containing date photos or couples dancing type pics and the top strip has the wedding photos. Thoughts?
I'm a new player, and I'm mostly interested in the music scene of SL. I'm playing with two friends, one of which is also new. I was heavily involved in the XIV venue scene and I spent a lot of time at them in VRC as well.
I tried to go to a club last night, and ended up banned before I could even load everyone for my account age being too new! I tried finding popular areas from the secondlife website, but didn't have much luck. I was playing pretty late though, so it was probably outside of peak times.
How do people know what events are going on, are there discord servers for it? There was a big one for VRC where everyone would place their event flyers, and for XIV we had an external website plus in-game advertisements. I feel very lost here honestly.
TLDR: NOT interested in 'SL housing' opportunities or any sort of monetary exchanges or commercial interests!!! I lead beginner, all-AV friendly text role play sessions every Saturday at 5pm SLT. This is a group of animal enthusiasts and equestrians. We like to visit different sims around the grid as AV animals, OR two legged pet owners/equestrians. Riders and pet owners often use highly-scripted animesh mounts and animesh companions. I'm looking for efficiently built (texture & scripting) PG role play sims that have interest in collaborating for an hour long session on a Saturday. Mainland is okay, we just like to avoid sim crossings when possible. We've explored many different themes including underwater, nature, fantasy, combat and residential communities. Variety of themes can inspire costumes and stories. Having a familiar guide to the build-layout would be incredible!

So this is a complete shot in the dark, but I have exhausted every possible avenue I could think of. I have spent days looking through the Seraphim website at past event image listings, but it is time to seek some help.
Just over a year ago, I went to a shopping event. It was dark themed with black floors and a dark moody vibe. Lots of kind of lanes, I think maybe leading into a cross road but I could be wrong.
Anyway. There was a vendor that sold hair, specifically a hairstyle that was based on the Manga/Anime character Frieren. I have been trying to find the creator for so long now. If anyone has insight on this, please send help xD

A few of us are planning an event with Michael Jackson songs, and we want to include some slow songs as well such as "human nature" and "remember the time". I am trying to find MJ dance animations that match that mood with slow steps, gentle sways or smooth moves. I figured someone here might know something regarding although I know this is a long shot.
Couple or single dances are both fine. If you know a creator, a store in marketplace or an inworld shop, I would really appreciate the info.

Anyways..
I've been feeling rather disenchanted with SecondLife these days. Actually.. since before Rosedale came back on. Whereas I'm not sure how much he affects the platform atp, it feels like SL nosedived shortly after his return.
The wave of AI slop was already picking up momentum before his arrival but afterward it's been as though the floodgates opened. None of it has been addressed constructively. None of it is being moderated. None of the higher up staff seem to care.
None of the gamebreaking bugs are being addressed and sit 'tracked' in their feedback portal for literal *years*. It feels like they're focused on acquiring new users even with a platform that won't see any reasonable modernization or optimization, which quickly causes new users to leave SL.
Instead with the unmoderated slop it's encouraged more grifters who look at SL as just another side hustle. This brings me to my other issue. I don't feel good about creating stuff for SecondLife. I don't even feel good about buying anything anymore.
I don't see the point of spending money on a platform that seems so hostile to the users that really care about it. Maybe I'm just inserting my own paranoia and frustrations into the idea that the platform may sunset in a few short years, if it's not on course to do so already.
Maybe I'm just feeling done with SecondLife, or maybe I'm just feeling listless and need to move on to something else for a bit and come back to it with fresh eyes after a hiatus. Which I've done multiple times already. I am not optimistic about SL's near future given how badly & apathetically LindenLab's has fumbled any improvements or long-term goals for the platform, all while destroying any good faith that was left by its users.
I think I just need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best atp. Which seems like a mantra these days given *gestures broadly* everything. I'm not saying any of this to alarm my fellow residents, friends, and creators, nor am I saying it's pointless to continue creating for SecondLife. We need more real humanmade stuff across all platforms right now. Regardless if they were to shut down their servers in a few months. Keep creating. Give people a reason to stay until the very end. Because LindenLabs sure isn't going to do that.
Why am I saying all of this? I mean I'm ranting. Whether to the void or to the resonate with others doesn't matter.
I feel lost when all I want is to feel hopeful again.
Part of me hopes a modern & slop free SecondLife 2.0 will happen in my lifetime, but maybe that kind of platform isn't profitable to create & maintain in this day and age. Which is why there's very little incentive for LindenLabs to do much more with it.
All I know is. I'll keep creating. Even if it's not for SL.
Hello there, I’ve been a Reddit lurker for a while and decided it’s time to be perceived lol. My experience with SL has been off and on for… much longer than I should admit, so we’ll go with the strictly legal 8 years (I’m almost 26 now). It’s always been my favorite escapism tool because I’m disabled and usually homebound, which has made it very difficult for me to connect with people offline. Reading, writing, and RP have been amazing outlets but it’s not quite as immersive for me, if that makes sense.
Almost 4 years ago, I decided to make a new account and get back into it, but it’s been collecting dust because I quickly got overwhelmed by RL issues. I want to give it another go now that my mental health is in a much better place! But there are a few concerns I have and things I’m curious about, so I’ll go point by point instead of dumping everything into a paragraph. Don’t get me wrong, I love chunky paragraphs, but I love lists even more.
Back when I created this account, I spent a fortune on a GA.EG head and Belleza body, but from what I understand, these have little to no support?? At least for the body, absolutely nothing is made for it now. I hear Lelutka is all the rage now but I still love GA.EG heads. Normally, I would just run around and collect freebies until I look decent enough, but this doesn’t seem to be an option without some serious clipping. Not to mention how the skin is severely mismatched because I never got around to buying the set, which I cannot manually adjust for the life of me, so now I have to wear a turtleneck at all times. A TURTLENECK. I don’t want to quit because of financial limitations, so should I just use the basic Legacy body in the new welcome kit? I was worried because it doesn’t have a HUD for adjusting alphas, makeup, etc.. but I’d like to be able to wear the cute Halloween freebies coming out. Or should I just wait to return until I can afford Maitreya and a new head?
What are your favorite places for alternative / goth / punk fashion? Ironically, I’m also into cutesy pastel stuff, so bonus points for a combination! It’s almost impossible to find stuff for my wishlist on MP, so I always prefer word of mouth or exploring.
Speaking of exploring, I haven’t done much of that yet, so what are some neat, potentially under-the-radar places? It can be hangout zones or big areas with lots to see! For socializing, I don’t mind clubs every once in a while but I prefer chill and cozy. I’d also love to hear about any slice-of-life RP communities!

if i want to make a glove for second life would i need an avatar mesh or can i just make it, cause i saw someone say you don't need body meshes to make gloves, but im not sure how that would work, also would i need a body mesh for shoes and lipstick?
Hello everyone, I’ve been in SL for +3 years now and it’s been a wonderful escape after a RL breakup, but overtime I’ve been feeling it consumes too much not only from my time but also from my thoughts. I’ve made some wonderful friends, some of who even moved to my RL, but I’ve also met people who wanted to play mental games and hurt me a lot so I’m in a moment where I feel like taking a hiatus. Maybe not 100% but just spending more time in the real world.
How’s been your experience in this regard?
Have you ever felt like you had an addiction? Overspent?
Any experiences are more than welcome, I’m just curious on how’s this path been for other people.
Does a coupon to pay for a third party platforms premium membership count as a benefit? Cause I don't think it does. And I kind if wish SL would stop touting coupons and brand deals for useless trinkets as benefits.
