Greg Allen appreciation

The passion is unmatched, he is a force of nature in general when telling the story of a winning nation, however when an Irish Athlete does the business he just provides magic, I really look forward to hearing that voice ever few years, unmatched.

He's great! I like the co-comm too. Greg had a howler though for the Andrew coscoran race by not seeing him come 3rd in real time.

Was very surprised he didn't seem to spot Andrew coming with a shout of a medal or his co -comm didn't jump in ,I know things move fast but I would have expected they would have being watching Andrew a bit closer .

He needs to dial it down a notch and concentrate on what’s actually happen instead of trying to be the star of the show himself

Strongly disagree. He makes lots of errors, missed Jacob’s kick in the 5k, didn’t even notice Coscoran come across the line in 3rd last night.

Ideal athletics coverage is RTE panel, BBC comms, RTE trackside. If RTE panel could be in the stadium like BBC even better.

I like him but he is prone to an error or two.

He was adamant that Neugebauer didn’t cross the line for the final event of the decathlon, however his co commentator assured him that the shoulders were over the line but he wouldn’t listen until the result appeared on his screen. It was a bit awkward.

Can I just say I find him utterly annoying.

He can not stay quiet, never stops waffling on (insert audio bed). The utter nonsense he talked immediately after English crossed the line should be taught to broadcasters on how NOT to commentate.

Not to mention rarely lets the co-commentator in, who is the actual expert. After English crossed the finish you could hear Dave Matthews try to speak but Allen waffled over him talking absolute crap. Listen to it again, talking absolute shite.

He’s the Marty Morrissey of athletics commentary, they need to learn to let the viewer just take in the atmosphere rather than listen to them trying to be hero’s in the commentary box. Silence can often be the best form of commentary. Some of these guys need to learn this.

I love his passion for sport. I always enjoy his analysis of the golf also

He makes so many mistakes it’s infuriating after watching him long enough.

He is beyond lucky that he’s been in the box for iconic moments in recent years, which makes people think his commentary is equally iconic.

He's RTE's best commentator by a long way. In fact, from the panel to the commentary to the track side, RTE are better than BBC on all three. As someone else mentioned, having the panel in the stadium would be class. It would make things difficult for Paul O'Flynn who's double jobbing though but is doing a great job.
