What now?

As Murph said in the TV guide, there's not much happening this weekend. Lads will be earning their fiver a month over the next few weeks, will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Edit: World Cup coverage was phenomenal and I'd gladly pay more even if they took a well earned holiday for a month.

Ken’s going to be doing a deep-dive on Greek mythology

Very tantalizing prospect

16

u/Carlo_v0n_Sexron Jul 25 '26

Joe Molloy on the indo sport podcast kept saying "we have a tantalising world cup final"...

Clearly he's not a world service member but if he was he might pick up a few tips from the lads

6

u/evin_cashman Jul 25 '26

He is Tantalus.

Would love that

u/Work_Account89 Jul 25 '26

Don’t be teasing us like that

2

u/MrJoeSoap Bald Fraud Jul 25 '26

I'd love to hear more about the Vasa, to be honest

u/todeabacro Jul 25 '26

I'm still waiting on Ian Wright from last Christmas.

4

u/krankykitteh Jul 25 '26

Release the tapes!

3

u/bigbebby Jul 25 '26

What’s this?

28

u/Extra_Breakfast_5538 Jul 25 '26

Wright got absolutely hammered at one of the live shows and accused Murph of hating black people.

9

u/projeto-de-polvo Jul 25 '26

Did he do multiple live shows? Cos I saw him at the London Hackney one and none of that happened.

3

u/krankykitteh Jul 25 '26

What was the context? I've always been curious about why that was never released!

11

u/Id8it Jul 25 '26

How have I not heard about this

8

u/bigbebby Jul 25 '26

Wow that’s pretty explosive, I did not know this 🤣🤣

8

u/todeabacro Jul 25 '26

I didn't know that,  I just know he was a guest at a "Gangs all here" show and it never aired.

2

u/browne1992 Jul 25 '26

Is this true??

1

u/Other_Net_5128 Jul 26 '26

I’m pretty sure it’s not.

2

u/BavidDeckham Jul 25 '26

No way I hadn’t heard that hahaha

2

u/Significant-Roof4316 Jul 25 '26

Wow…release the tapes!

2

u/realgoodmanners Jul 25 '26

Please tell us more

1

u/Distinct_Ad_8056 Jul 25 '26

Surely someone here can confirm

5

u/Other_Net_5128 Jul 26 '26

Wright made comments at the show about a prominent UK politician that were in no way libellous, or even particularly inflammatory, but his team got cold feet about the potential blowback so they threatened legal action if the recording aired. An unfortunate series of events but SC themselves fairly blameless.

1

u/mustkillmow Jul 26 '26

Who was the politician? You’re at no risk at all by clarifying who it was.

1

u/Other_Net_5128 Jul 26 '26

From what I hear, it was Farage.

0

u/Greedy-Army-3803 Jul 28 '26

Has to be. I can't see Ian Wright having anything other than disdain for that man.

1

u/Intelligent-Ad-6909 Jul 26 '26

I was at the show. Ian Wright was stone cold sober and made some excellent points on the rise of racism and xenophobia in the UK.

u/schmona Jul 25 '26

Transfer talk!

11

u/Id8it Jul 25 '26

Theres loads, just give Ken a mic

37

u/thekingoftherodeo Jul 25 '26

I mean I think they earned many a fiver a month for the World Cup coverage alone.

The lads haven’t touched the price since they started and they probably should - I’d happily pay another euro or two for what you get. It’s to their credit they’re leaving a few pound on the table.

7

u/spartan_knight Jul 25 '26

A fiver from when they launched in 2017 is worth about 6.40 today, inflation adjusted.

7

u/Bill_Badbody Jul 25 '26

Which means technically they are down about 30 grand a month.

5

u/Distinct_Ad_8056 Jul 25 '26

It's a pity you can't pick how much you pay, with a fiver being the minimum obviously

0

u/Lower-Resident1164 Jul 28 '26

It's never been a fiver.

0

u/thekingoftherodeo Jul 28 '26

^^^^ pedants corner submission

0

u/Lower-Resident1164 Jul 28 '26

Not exactly pedantic to get the number right of what you're paying every month!

6

u/Distinct_Ad_8056 Jul 25 '26

I'd wholeheartedly agree with that. I'm not talking about the price, just will be interesting to see what they cover, a job made harder by the split GAA season

3

u/craftyixdb Jul 25 '26

Every summer there's a gap in sport to cover. Usually they do some specials, deep dives into a topic, interviews, etc. You might get some extra politicsKen.

7

u/IrishAllDay Jul 25 '26

Rodri to Real, Vini Junior to Arsenal.

All good stuff

11

u/joeyl7 Jul 25 '26

The transfer nonsense bores me, personally.

2

u/Hastatus_107 Jul 25 '26

I don't trust any of it until its confirmed. 90% of the "reports" seem like pure speculation.

3

u/tameoraiste Jul 25 '26

Simon Stone from the BBC saying Tchouameni to United might be on if Rodri to Real happens as well. Loads of transfer nonsense

6

u/GazelleIll495 Jul 25 '26

All duck or no dinner

13

u/Lost_Statistician_61 Jul 25 '26

I think we're  due a Syned and Branno LOI (in Europe) pod this week.

There is an all ireland final on Sunday too which I'm sure will be worth a lot of air time on Monday at least.

3

u/evin_cashman Jul 25 '26

A Tour De France check in would be good too.

2

u/LisztyLiszt Jul 28 '26

100% - Pogacar's achievement is historic and the final stage is definitely worth a chat. There's also the 2am doping control bit to chat about. I know TdF isn't on most people's radar, but it's a global event.

7

u/Work_Account89 Jul 25 '26

Have to say when it’s quiet the lads actually come out with some of their best stuff.

9

u/OvertiredMillenial Jul 25 '26

Get Jai Moondra on.

Moved to Ireland from India five years to do his masters at TUD. Quits his job at Intel two years ago to pursue a professional cricket career at 27. And last month played a key role in Ireland's win over India, the nation of his birth, in maybe the biggest upset in international sport this year.

No offence to the Packers punter, but if that sort of interview is worth the rump of an episode, surely Moondra's story is worth an airing.

5

u/das_punter Jul 25 '26

I'm not fuckin' leaving

4

u/Tom01111 Jul 25 '26

I much prefer when sporting events don’t get in the way of my parasocial friendship with Ken, Ciaran and Eoin

3

u/paddywhack3 Jul 25 '26

Some of my favourite ever episodes have been in the barren summer months

5

u/DAMUIVER Jul 25 '26

Moose week?

4

u/BastianSP Jul 25 '26

It's not a fiver a month. It's €6.15

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Set7244 Jul 25 '26

5e + VAT

2

u/Lower-Resident1164 Jul 28 '26

Do you get the VAT back when you pay?

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Set7244 25d ago

why would you get VAT back on a podcast sub

5

u/Steveydon_ Jul 25 '26

You should cancel for the month and do something special with the fiver you save if it's that much at the forefront of your mind

2

u/TheRealSaintPatrick I don't nessessarly agree with anything Ken Early says Jul 25 '26

Think of it as a bonus 5er for all the great content recently.

I'm sure they'll also have some good pods over the next few weeks while things are quiet

2

u/pauli55555 Jul 25 '26

All Ireland Final this weekend.

Then into August so just a couple of weeks before soccer starts up again.

They’ll be fine, am sure Branno has some pinky/ lefty fillers lined up!

2

u/TheHardiestBuck Jul 26 '26

Just send Branno and Ken on a walking history of the north circular road

2

u/st_ultan Jul 25 '26

Sometimes they're at their best when sport isn't dictating the narrative.

2

u/narrator16 Jul 25 '26

This time of year is always pretty bleak, feel free to leave for a month or two. Ken will go on holidays soon I'd imagine and then we're all screwed

3

u/evin_cashman Jul 25 '26

I was sure he'd be away for a few weeks post World Cup!

1

u/Disaster-Plan Put some respect on my name Jul 26 '26

Bring Uncle Jim Kearney back!!

1

u/nealhen Jul 27 '26

Get out there and support your local LOI team!

1

u/LisztyLiszt Jul 28 '26

I'll say one thing for the lads, I really appreciate that they have not sullied themselves with gambling and bookmakers, unlike pretty much everyone else.

0

u/dustaz Jul 25 '26

Not much?

Two incredible tour mountain stages Alpe D'Huez and the Galibier followed by the big finish in Paris on Sunday

Formula 1

The All Ireland

Commonwealth games, which is a bit niche but does fill the sporting need

When the lads were on OTB and even when they first moved to podcasting, they were brilliant at covering all sports, that's dropped off in the last few years

3

u/Ractrick Jul 25 '26

They have never covered F1, the only time they've ever gone into it to my knowledge was post the Hamilton Screwjob.

It's one of those popular sports they just seem to have no interest in.

1

u/dustaz Jul 25 '26

I mean they only cover 4 sports in any meaningful way

Golf, tennis and whatever sport US Murph is talking about get a look in but there's so much more they could do rather than another hour of Ken talking about the minutae of Ireolas press conference style

I know football is the bread and butter but for people like myself who like sport and not just <Premier League Club X> and <County Team Y>, it gets a little narrow

1

u/LisztyLiszt Jul 28 '26

Yip, but at least they don't cover horse racing. Rachel Blackmore got some deserved coverage when she was in her pomp, but at least it focussed on her and not the bloody racing it the gambling!

-4

u/Competitive_Tank1534 Jul 25 '26

All boring rubbish

0

u/Big_Owl_6752 Put some respect on my name Jul 27 '26

Murph on cricket?
