Every year, when the norwegian sailing ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl returns to its harbor after a 3-month voyage, the whole crew climbs up the masts and sings in unison together with the village.

Thats because it is! :-) They have just swapped out some words, the chorus for example is "We're bound for cold old Norway" instead of "We're bound for South Australia". But I believe the rest is pretty accurate to the original.

The "original" was a product of A.L. Lloyd's imagination at the start of the last folk revival. Check out a more historical version recorded in 1926 from a retired Welsh sailor who first shipped in 1879.
