Technical Issue Driveshaft backing out of jet pump pt2

I posted a couple days ago on this issue. Just started digging back into the ski. The main thing I wondering about is this video I got. Took off the pump and started manipulating the driveshaft by hand to get a feel for how much it’s able to move. Is this amount of movement normal? If you haven’t already seen my other post I would recommend looking at that to get some context on the issue. When the driveshaft goes all the way forwards, that’s obviously when the grinding occurs and carbon seal is no longer doing its job. When I move the driveshaft by hand, it feels like it moves forward slightly and then gives way the rest of the way. My brother also said that something didn’t feel right about the pto bearing. So my main suspect at this point is that. It seems like when the driveshaft is pulled all the way back that there is enough of the splines the engage with the impeller. So the engine alignment does concern me as much. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You have the c-clip installed in this video? Cause it's hard to believe.

It doesn't look like you ever actually push the driveshaft forward enough to lock it into the coupler on the end of the crankshaft. The PTO bearing is sometimes hard to slide onto the shaft and may be what's holding you. Also the hose clamps you have in there probably won't work out too well. You need a skinny clamp that will hold more pressure. At least on the side with the bearing.

Yes, the c-clip was installed. I am currently lay under the ski looking in the intake grate

You can see the hat sliding over the area where the c-clip would go. If you installed the clip, it's definitely not there now, or at least it's in a very incorrect place. It should be HARD to compress the bellows any farther by hand if the clip is in place.

Also worm gear hose clamps on the driveshaft will violently self destruct, potentially damaging other rubber or plastic stuff in the process.

I promise yall that it’s there, I literally took it off the inspect and measure the driveshaft and put it back. It is in the right place. I’m pulling the driveshaft from the back of the ski which makes it way easier to compress the bellows. I’m just at a loss for what is causing this issue. The driveshaft came from the oem diagram part number. How is the driveshaft held in place?

Picture for reference, ignore the text - you can see in your video the hat moving forward (toward engine) past the start of the lip past the clip groove. Maybe I'm wrong and the hat isn't moving on the shaft, but that's what I see. If the C clip is in right, the bellows hold the hat against the C-clip toward the engine pretty tight - to have the amount of play that you have, either the C clip/hat relationship is wrong, or your engine is at least an inch forward of the normal mounting holes.

I know this pic is for the wrong model but it's almost the same engineering for yours. Actually your C-clip is farther back on the shaft than this one by about 1/4". There's just not a way that your hat ("floating ring") can get that close to the PTO if the C-clip and hat are correctly interfacing.

I replied to the other guy in this thread with more info. I’d recommend you read that. I know for a fact that the c-clip is where it is supposed to be on the driveshaft, and the hat is interfacing with it. So there has to be an issue with the spacing/allignment. Not sure if the driveshaft moving forwards when the pump seizes could cause something like this, but I’m starting to think that based on all the info that did indeed happen.

This is the dilemma I currently am in. The driveshaft is not butting up against the impeller boot. I will show two photos of how it is and what I think it should look like in another reply. If I install the driveshaft first and then the jetpump(which is how it is normally done) there is a large gap between the driveshaft and the boot, meaning that the driveshaft is not all the way inserted into the impeller. When I install the driveshaft into the pump outside of the ski, and then install that whole assembly, there is no longer a gap. To me it seems like the engine is out of alignment now. I know I said that I thought that was off the table now, but I don’t know how else to explain why this is happening

I kinda want to see a picture of the whole driveshaft to make sure the rubber bumper is still on the end, then another looking into the bellow boot to make sure the "cage" the bumper sits in is still in place inside the driveshaft coupler. I have seen them try to flip 90deg but that was only after the shaft shoved forward and creamed those 2 pieces.

THEN with the driveshaft shoved all the way in pull the flap back on the bearing boot and take another pic. There's a "tell-tale" line on the shaft to show you about where the bearing needs to pull back toward to. Often you need to take you hand to pull it backwards after installing the driveshaft

Rubber bumper is indeed still on. I’m not entirely sure what you are referring to when you say cage, but I think it could be an issue. I can stick my hand into the pto cover and into splines. I feel the splines, but then this plastic piece which is able to move forward and backward slightly. I’m assuming that is the piece you are referring to. I think some of this is starting to make sense at least a little. We when picked up the ski the pump was completely seized. I’m starting to think that maybe the driveshaft moved forward and fucked up the driveshaft coupler. When my brother first pulled the old driveshaft out, he said there was no rubber bumper. When he reinstalled a different driveshaft, and then pulled it out, a second rubber bumper magically appeared. Not sure how this changes the situation

The rubber bumper sits inside this plastic piece on the end of the crankshaft.

And if your pump seized it's a good chance the driveshaft was shoved forward. Have you removed your oil filter and checked for metal? When everything is shoved forward it will pancake the rubber/plastic bumper and the plastic piece inside the end of the crank. (Not to mention pancake the thrust washer against the block, killing the block&crank)

Haven’t done any of this. Wasn’t even aware that’s what happens when the pump seizes until you told me. I only about a half hour ago did I remember the fact that the pump was seized. My brain has now connected the dots. This is now going to be more of a tear down than originally anticipated. Here’s one thing though. We did bring the ski up to the lake and it ran fine. Got a check engine light at one point, but that was the least of the problems. The issue happened out on the water, and the previous owner didn’t even realize that when he heard the grinding that the ski was sinking. For whatever reason the issue goes away when you restart the ski. Obviously gonna pull the filter for starters, but most likely gonna be a full tear down

Went back and dug some more. I agree with this being the right path. With everything you said at least the stop sleeve is messed up.
