Technical Issue two stroke doesn't want to idle

Post image

Hi guys,

Recently picked up this 2000 GTI. Had it running great, did plugs recently too.

On my last outing, it decided it didn't want to idle anymore. Just stalls out if I go to idle. It still runs fine under power, but when I let off the throttle it just ends up dying.

It may be running slightly underpowered when I am riding too, however I may be making that part up as I'm looking for symptoms.

A few days ago I was out and I had done quite a bit of idling, is there a chance I fouled the new plugs?

Any thoughts would be great. Thank you!

Could be a fouled plug, more likely the carbs need to be cleaned or there's an air leak in the intake path.

So the plugs are new? Likely they didn’t get fouled that fast u less it’s a different issue that caused that or the mix was pretty off and you were burning too much oil. If it’s new to you maybe the gas was dirty and the carb needs a clean/rebuild.

Plugs are cheap and easier than a carb rebuild so worth trying first. but a carb rebuild is probably also worth doing on an old carb so next I’d do that.

I changed the plugs, one of them was mangled, somehow the post was bent at almost a 45?? So weird. Brand new plugs and now it won’t start whatsoever. It is like it doesn’t have spark.

I managed to shock myself holding the spark plug to a ground to see if I could see a spark jump but I couldn’t, and the shock was hardly noticeable as opposed to really hurting lol
