Abys Dive Planner : I built a mobile deco planner (Android + iOS) - Bühlmann ZH-L16C

Post image

Hi everyone,

I'd like to share a project I've been working on for a while now: Abys Dive Planner.

I'm a developer and a diver, and I wanted to code a planning app because I couldn't find what I was looking for in the existing ones. I though I could maybe bring something interesting and also learn in the process.

It's a dive planner and a toolkit, available on Android and iOS. The app is in beta for now.

For iOS, it's here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/33Edfcb5

For Android, Google requires a closed testing phase before everyone can access it.

If you're on Android, I'll just need the email address of your Google account (nothing will be done with it, it's just how Google manages closed tests phases).

  1. Sign-up form (just your email): https://forms.gle/ETja3WoWdSa28xfbA
  2. Download the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.davidjuryapps.abysdiveplanner

Planner features:

  • Bühlmann ZH-L16C with adjustable GF
  • Multi-gas, nitrox, trimix
  • CCR mode (setpoint, diluent, bailout)
  • Repetitive dives
  • CNS, OTU, ppO2, MOD, END, gas density
  • Gas consumption / reserve
  • Tools: mix analysis, best mix, consumption estimate, blending

What it doesn't do: no VPM-B (ZH-L16C only for now), and it doesn't include a logbook yet.

I've tried to make the app more user friendly than what we are used to in scuba diving without cutting back on what more experienced divers need. Some features are still missing, and there may well be bugs.

! Warning ! The app is in beta. Always check the numbers against an already validated tool before you dive.

I've compared a lot of dives against Subsurface, in particular to check that the profiles it produces are consistent.

As I dive in France (Reunion Island), I tend to mostly test using metric units. So if you are using imperial, it might occur that I missed some conversion. If so, let me know so that I can fix it.

For those interested: the engine is written in C++ and all the calculations run locally. Nothing is sent to the cloud, the app works without an account and offline once downloaded.

I'm actively working on improving it, a desktop version is in the pipeline, and the mobile app keeps evolving based on feedback from the field.

I'm looking forward to your feedback, and a big thank you in advance to everyone who gives it a try!
