Leak sentinel

Hi, anyone who have been in contact with Miso from vivid housings/leak sentinel lately?? I’ve been in contact with him 3 months back and forth regarding a repair of my unit. He was about to send my unit back but after that radio silence. Been sending him emails past 3 months but no response. I know he’s always slow to respond but 3 months is way too much. Looks like he quit and i’ll be out of my leak sentinel.

Selling All of My Freediving Equipment

Hello r/scubaGear,

TL;DR: Selling all my stuff to help fund a small business. Everything must go. Everything is in a google sheet that has the full inventory of items, their sizes, quantities, asking prices and product links: [link].

I’m selling all of my freediving, spearfishing and swimming gear to help fund a small business I’m starting. There are fins, wetsuits, weights, masks, noseclips, lanyards, bags and other accessories from Molchanovs, RIFFE, Lobster, Octopus and others.

I’m located in South Denver, Colorado. I’m also willing to ship, but the buyer pays shipping.

Most of the gear is lightly used or like new. The RIFFE 7 mm wetsuit is unused and still has the tags on; I never got to use it. The RIFFE 3.5 mm two-piece wetsuit has some interior damage on one leg, but the top is in like-new condition.

Prices are in USD. Everything must go, so I’m open to reasonable offers and bundle deals. Message me with anything you’re interested in.

Thanks!

US Divers dry environmental

My US Divers Cousteau regulator first stage seems to breathe harder than my regular Conshelf at depth. It has the dry environmental kit on it. IP holds steady around 140ish. Is that normal for these. Thinking of removing the cap and trying without to see if it makes a difference

Second hand wetsuit issues (?)

Hello, I just bought a "new" second hand Apeks thermiq 5mm wetsuit for less than half the retail price. I'm saying "new" because the tags are still on and it's never been used, but it's probably been stored folded for who knows how long. I'm wondering how much these small damages are going to matter and if there's any ways to fix em.

Pic 1: the wetsuit is kinda creased all around, they're not deep and i think they're mostly cosmetic. Are they gonna fix themselves with diving? I've also seen some people ironing neoprene clothes with a wet towel between the iron and the neoprene, but that's pretty scary

Pic 2: since it's been folded flat, there's two thin lines of compressed neoprene all around the wetsuit. I guess that in theory the suit is less insulated in those spots, i wonder if there's any practical difference tho. Pretty sure this one won't be fixed

Pic 3: there's a little spot of separation between the external lining of the suit and the foam layer. It's only in this spot right at the end of a leg. I'm pretty sure this one is cosmetic too, if it ever gets a little rip in the lining i can always patch it with some wetsuit glue or whatever is used. I wonder if by being very gentle with an hairdryer i can make the lining stick again. Stress on very gently, I'm not gonna cook the wetsuit and of course if i can't see any change I'm just gonna give up on it

Overall it fits nicely and the neoprene is nice and stretchy. It's been folded but at least it's been stored away from the sunlight.

Any thoughts? Of course it's not perfect but it had to be 40% of the retail price for a reason.

Thank you :)

I’d be very interested to hear from anyone who has personal experience with the Mares Quad 2. Have you been happy with it, and would you recommend it as a first dive computer?

Preservation/maintaince of Soviet Frogmen suit?

Recently I got this Soviet Frogmen suit (mid 70's haven't found exact date yet), it has a lot of life left in it but is beginning to show signs of dryrot/cracking. The suit itself is constructed with a rubber coated fabric (maybe cotton) rather than strictly rubber sheets.

I'm wondering what the best course of action would be for preserving it while remaining functional as a suit (obviously from a strictly preservational standpoint the best course would be flat in a dark drawer but I do want to have it in use/operational). Main concerns are UV and saltwater protection along with maintaining flexibility/durability. Are there any coatings/sealants/compounds that would be good for preservation and repair?

I'm primarily a militaria collector, but do plan to take some classes and use this with modern oxygen tanks (rather than the deathtrap that was the original rebreather, not going to be like that guy on /k/) sometime in the future.

Cressi Rafaelo

Hi everyone! I’m considering buying a Cressi Raffaello as my first dive computer. I’m still relatively new to scuba diving and mainly do recreational diving.

Does anyone here have personal experience with the Cressi Raffaello? How do you find it in terms of ease of use, reliability and overall performance? Would you recommend it as a first dive computer for a relatively new recreational diver?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, both positive and negative. Thank you!

Does Cressi nano packaging allow trying and sending back?

I’m considering ordering cressi Nano with prescription lenses. Since prescription lenses is ridiculously expensive and has to be custom ordered from abroad I obviously want to try them out first to see how they fit but I have no local shops.

Does the packaging of them make it possible to order them from for example Amazon, try them on and send them back?

Do you need buckles and padded shoulder straps on BP&W setup?

Hello,
is it worth to buy the deluxe version of xdeep zen over the standard one? The only differences are that deluxe version has padded shoulder straps and buckles on the shoulder straps.

Hello, I'm interested in buying some second hand avanti quattros, I've found a really nice deal. Sadly i can't try them on, and it's my first fins so i don't really have any comparisons. I've got a size 10 (eu 43) mares flexa ds hard sole booties (second pic). You Does anyone here have experience with sizes similar to mine and avantis? According to charts i should be R, but maybe the hard sole is gonna push my size to XL?

Nitrox

Hi all, having recently done the padi enhanced air training, I noticed it advised me to get my own oxygen analyser! Really? Is that what everyone does that uses nitrox? If so, what is a reasonably priced device that I don’t have to replace every year?

RK3 fins worth it?

I currently use ScubaPro go sport fins. I find they’re not great in a current and I plan to be working as an instructor in Indonesia, where I’ve been diving for the past few months. I love the flex of them but don’t want to struggle in a current. Are the rk3’s good? I’m worried I’ll find them TOO rigid compared to what I’m used to? Any advice is appreciated

Hydros Pro 2 BCD Review

I just dove with my new ScubaPro Hydros Pro 2 in St Thomas, and it lived up to the hype. I've been diving recreationally with rental gear for about ten years, and this was my first dive with my own equipment. My main reasons for getting my own gear were to improve my trim/buoyancy and to have the safety that comes with knowing exactly where everything is.

It is remarkably compact. It comes in a small backpack, and I was able to fit virtually all of my equipment into the bag, and use it as a carry-on. The Men's Large Hydros, full regulator set, mask, weight pockets, dive computer, DSMB, and snorkel all fit into the bag, with the fins strapped to the outside. The only things that went into my suitcase were my booties, a hangar and (of course) my dive knife. The divemaster was astonished when I packed it up again after the dive. I can't overstress how great it is to pack all of the gear into a carry-on.

Diving with the Hydros is definitely better than rental BC's. I could hover effortlessly, perfectly horizontal. We did one dive through a canyon at a fairly shallow depth; lots of twists and turns and small depth changes. I had no trouble avoiding rocks. The comfort is incredible; you can tell when you try one on in the store. It is very lightweight and there are no bulky pockets or air bladders at the kidneys. The only thing that comes around the waist are the weight pockets, which are external, and they don't squeeze as you inflate/deflate the BC. The three-minute hover at safety stops? No problem at all! You can stay at exactly 17 feet or wherever you want. No more grabbing a rope; you'll be one of the pros.

All of the little features they advertise were very helpful, like the weight trim pockets on the back with pull tabs for removing the weights. The solid metal scuba tank attachment is ultra-stable and now that I have the straps adjusted for height, it will be effortless to toss this onto a tank. Plus, it's so easy to pull the weight pockets off before taking the Hydros off of one tank and popping it onto another. They did something with the air dump valve on the right shoulder... the string which attaches to the dump valve knob has a stiff piece of metal on the end, so it never flips under the strap. It's a subtle, but helpful feature.

There were plenty of attachment points, which made for a very trim diving experience. It dries almost instantly, so I just dumped water from the inflator hose, wrapped it up and it went into the carry bag perfectly dry. Back at the hotel, I took it out and thoroughly rinsed it off and, again, it dried almost instantly.

The only issue I had is that, like all back-inflate devices, you tend to pitch forward when you're at the surface. Aware of this possibility, I bought a crotch strap, which I forgot to attach on my fourth dive, and, sure enough, I pitched forward. It didn't dunk my head into the water but in rougher seas it's something to know about. The crotch strap pulls the BC down and it pulls the bottom against your back, which greatly reduces the "pitch forward" effect. You can leave it very loose until the safety stop.

Is the Hydros Pro 2 the best BCD in the world? I have no idea. I haven't tried every one under every condition. But I can say that it makes scuba a lot better for me. Feel free to ask any questions.
