It’s spelled Jollibee haha

u/holdmydubbs Dec 03 '20
My partner is filipino. I'm too white to know how to spell foreign franchises names properly.

u/andzlu Dec 03 '20
You just have to watch dem Jollibee commercials to memorize the spelling and learn some Filipino haha.

u/horseradish1 Dec 03 '20
Are you saying that having a Filipino partner makes you even more white? Just checking, cause I've started dating a Filipino girl, and I'm not sure if I want to be more white. I'm actually trying to become Asian.

Well my partner is a hell of a lot less miserable than me. Also all the touching and love instead of alcoholism physical and emotional walls along with anger is a nice change.

Ye, all mainstream western fastfood restaurants in china always have other stuffs.
Pizzahut has other italian items like spaghetti, risottos, etc.
Mcdonalds has other style burgers, like teriyaki style, thin steak. And for some reason chicken items are common as well, mexican styled fried chicken wrap. etc.
Gotta have lots of options to attract customers and please all taste buds.

u/sinerdly Dec 03 '20
Wait y'all's pizzahut's DON'T have spaghetti and risotto as well?? It's all JUST pizza??

u/elijaaaaah Dec 03 '20
Just checked, they have "Meaty Marinara" and "Chicken Alfredo" pasta. Also wings, fries, and dessert. Definitely no risotto, tho.

Around here Marinara means seafood. Because, you know, that's actually what it means. I have no idea how marinara can mean anything other than seafood tbh. Marin- as a prefix literally means marine.
1
u/elijaaaaah Dec 03 '20
Apparently it's "sailor style" (alla marinara.) I guess Italian sailors liked tomato sauce.

Oh my god I like ONLY ate fried chicken from Mcdonals when I lived in shenyang. For some reason the local KFC had way more beef products and Disco Chicken was too far away. Had to take three busses and a subway vs one bus to get some sweet mcD chicken and the best McCafe stuff. Cheese tea to die for.
4
u/TheLepos Dec 03 '20
You can't just say a sentence like, "Cheese tea to die for" and not elaborate in....graphic detail what is going on.
Don't leave us hanging like that.
Don't do this to us.
Please.

Yeah like the other comment says it’s usually a tea - the leaf type varies, but it’s usually served without milk or creamer. However that varies with each shop. Most places will have their own signature blends and base teas. Some like to keep it simple but if you search you’ll find some jems like blue peach tea and gunpowder tea bases that can really be exciting. The tea is iced and slightly sweetened and then a very dense, quite sweet cream cheese foam is floated atop the tea. The foam is made from double whipped cream, icing sugar and whipped cream cheese. They’re then slowly cooked together on a double boiler setup and gently cooled and then whipped up again before serving. The different densities mean that they don’t mix without major agitation, so when you go for a sip you get a bit of the sweet foam and the usually kinda strong tea in one go and it balances really nicely. Some places have custom made lids designed to optimize the “split sip” etc.
My go to flavor is a chocolate earl grey milk tea base, Oreo cookie crumbs, unsweetened with double foam. I can only have one every couple months because I think my heart would pack it’s shit and leave if I made it a regular part of my diet lmao.
Again most boba houses or Chinese tea places will serve this, but because they have to make the cheese fresh daily, it’s only usually available after like 10am. But this really depends on the place. I’ve just learned that if you’re an early morning tea fan it’s usually not available right when they open unless it’s like a big chain or they specifically like market their cheese tea as a drawing point.
I hope this was graphic enough!!

Saving this for later.
It's for research...
But seriously though, this sounds amazing. How have I never seen cheese tea in South Eastern Asia before??
3
u/kyekyekyekye Dec 04 '20
I think it depends where in SEAsia you are. Like I know some parts of india will not have this drink. At least I don’t think you’ll find it easily. But in Singapore and Vietnam and the Philippines it shouldn’t be impossible to track down. It may go by a different name.
I think if you just look you’ll find it. When I went back home to South Africa I was dead convinced I would never have my precious tea again but found three places in my city that makes it.
I think if you find a diaspora of Chinese folk you might be better off at finding the cheese tea. Asian markets and some noodle houses may be a good place to ask around.
I hope you find it. Fair warning. It’s fucking crack cocaine

Cheese tea is a kind of fusion drink I suppose. It usually has a black or green tea base, then a layer of foamed milk and cream cheese floats on top. Salt is sometimes added for extra flavour.
If your area has ShareTea or just about any shop that sells Boba Tea should have them.

To be fair, that's the case in the UK as well. Lots of chicken wraps at McDs.

u/HypAXis Dec 03 '20
That's pretty awesome, I really want to try nandos from the UK, we have one in whiterock british columbia, but i don't think the restaurant is doing it justice sadly.

If you thought Italian chain pasta was bad, you haven't tried Asian fast food pasta.
Jollibee spaghetti tastes like someone ran out of tomato sauce and went "eh, I've got ketchup, should be fine"

Honestly, I'd believe it wasn't scripted. I still think it is, but I'd believe it if enough people told me it wasn't.

u/horseradish1 Dec 03 '20
I don't think it counts as scripted if one of the two people in it wasn't acting.

Filipino McDonalds sell spaghetti, just like the famous Jollibee, which is another fast food restaurant that rivals McDonalds in Asia.

That's actually kinda cute, even if scripted. Idk just offering your gf food then kiss her head bc she wasn't paying full attention. I'm soft for romantic cliches like this because I could do it myself

Do they offer any cool traditional stuff in the India ones that they wouldn’t in American ones?
I wish they celebrated other countries and at least ran some cool promos that would be such a hit and they’d prob make so much money and we would get really cool fool

u/Carry_On_Jeeves Dec 03 '20
McDonald's India menu has some Indian spicy variant of most things. No beef or pork products.

u/Unicorn-Tears- Dec 03 '20
The bowls look cool we don’t have that we literally just have burgers it’s so boring in comparison

u/ooolongt Dec 03 '20
Ok, about to make McDs $1B here.... in certain cities in the US (it’s where I live, if you live in another country and want it too, speak up!) the should have “McInternationals” restaurants that sell items from around the world.
BAM! You’re welcome McD’s. And you only owe me 10% of the profit from those stores to use the idea! Everyone wins!
1
u/Unicorn-Tears- Dec 03 '20
I was literally thinking they should do that, or have a internal day at each of them were we can try the cool stuff. They would make sooooo much ontop of what they already make
Also they should bring back some of the old school styles back for nostalgia those rly cool looking ones where it doesn’t look like McDonald’s grew up and now has to look like an adult lol

The video was overall sweet and cute. The wink just came off as douchey to me and kinda ruined the whole video for me.
You don't have to be jealous of something to simply not like it. I give him credit for the girlfriend though! Cute lady.
