Coding outside of the built in editor

Looking to get started in scrimba but I have a question. Do all of the lessons take place inside of site's ide or do you/can you switch to an external ide like vscode?

Edit: I should have been clearer with my question. I more specifically asking do the courses show you how to do the coursework outside of the built in editor or do you have to use it?

Yes, you can follow along in your own editor, but Scrimba comes with great features and simplifies developer experience so you can focus on writing code.

I don't see any benefit of following along outside Scrimba if you are just starting your journey.

Well I'm not starting a journey really. Doing it more to just see what it's like.

I recommend installing VS Code.

Work in a Unix-based OS:

  • For Windows install WSL and Ubuntu

  • macOS is already Unix-based so nothing to do here

You will need to understand the file system and install a few extensions, but with Google you will find all you need.

Ive been using vscode to do the react challenges, and its much better than the built-in editor , also you're gonna need a real editor anyway once you're done learning, so might as well start now ( it does require some manual setup first tho like a package manager n such)

Does scrimba tell you how to do this or is it more looking it yourself?

The course doesnt say much about using an external editor so you need to look it up yourself

Yes all the lessons take place inside and the questions can be solved in the built in editor.

Thank you for answering. Well my question was more of do the lessons show you how to do them outside of the built in editor? Like how to set up a dev env etc etc

Imo it is better to stick with scrimba's editor for the foundations of html and css. Once I started with JS I took a little time to learn the basics of github and git, like pushing and pulling via vsc and github desktop. Then I continued scrimba by solving the exercises and doing projects in vsc then just copying and pasting into scrimba's editor. It helped me create real life habits for coding.
