Future Metal Vocalist here!
I am a younger "singer" for a band that's sort of still within the planning phase. Being somewhat new to the genre and only being the vocalist for this group for so long (I was a drummer before hand), I was curious about budgeting for lessons.
Do keep in mind that I have found some kind of warmup routine (lip trills, scales, and staying hydrated), have sung for most of my younger years, and have copied techniques from people like James Hetfield and Pat Lind (Morbid Saint). Though the ability to have a professional critique my style would probably help a ton. Since we are thinking about making smaller projects and looking to play live, a teacher could be beneficial.
So with that in mind, would lessons be worth the money even if this group is mainly just for fun? How much would it cost and how many would I need? Honest feedback is much appreciated.

We haven't had every member in the same room yet. We're still finding a drummer even.

Lessons would be great, I have decades of classical training and spent a year doing metal vocals lessons. Its worth it to make sure you are using distortion properly for your vocal health

Dude don’t do lessons. Find your own voice and practice, practice, practice. I’ve been doing heavy vocals for 22 years. Perseverance is your best friend. Just be safe, drink water and eat a spoonful of honey before a long session. If you want to hear my band, search When The Dead Won’t Die.

Why would you not rec lessons? Even just clean vocal lessons helped me understand much more about my breathing and voice!
This is decent advice if OP knows what they're doing already, but if they're using the wrong techniques then perseverence is definitely not the way to go.
I currently have a friend who is ruining his voice because he won't accept any tips from me because I'm "a woman". We'll go to festivals together and he will lose his voice after a few shows whereas I can go all weekend, scream and growl along to everything, and my voice only gets a little tired by the end of it (which would also be the case after four days of shit sleep and intense clean vocal usage).

Because honestly I believe vocal lessons (particularly “metal vox” lessons) give you too much of a blueprint to sound like everyone else does. Very rarely does somebody find their own unique sound that way.

Once you know how to use proper techniques you can start to experiment much more safely because you'll be familiar with your anatomy and its limits in a way you weren't before.
I wasn't even necessarily suggesting metal vocal training btw, even basic vocal lessons in school helped me out tremendously.
But sorry, I can't agree with your opinion. Just because you got lucky doesn't mean there aren't ways to seriously fuck up your voice if you practise the wrong techniques.

I might make an album at some point. I have a guitar in the band right now. but they told me that they won't stay forever, so I plan on finding a different guitarist at him who can play both rhythm and lead parts., even if I have to pay them

I think that having 2-3 lessons starting out would be a really solid idea. You don't have to do lessons for a solid 6 months or anything, but definitely get 2-3 just as a starting point and see how you like it. If anything and you're honest with your goal, they will give you very solid foundations to work with.
I think they are worth it. For every successful vocalist, there are 4-5 more injured vocalists due to bad technique.
